Tracked version of NBS MANTIS C-RAM!!!

Maybe Tracked version of Rheinmetall Skyranger!!!

Those T72 tanks should be used for other purpose like for mines clearing with remote control, Akash missile carrier and for its radar, and what ever any other purpose they can think of, including putting some AK 630 guns for mobile point defence against cruise missiles.

Get rid of these junks, These tanks not only old, But need a expensive overhaul and then a expensive upgrade costing double of a new Modern tank..

Better get new Arjun MK-1, which is ready now and superior to both T-72M1 & T90S..
Sir,don't you think it would be a feasible option for us to upgrrade our T-55 and T-72 fleet with the help of the Israeli Magach upgradation?i mean after reading about the Magach-6 and Magach-7 upgraded versions of T-55 i was pretty impressed on the fact that the Israelis turned a junk like T-55 into a potential lethal modern day MBT.
so we can also do the same with the large nos. of T-72 and T-55 at our disposal and perhaps can turn a few of them in Tarmour AFV or the more potent Namer IFV.what's your though in this matter Sir?

Magach tanks are based on the American M48 and M60 Patton tanks. How can it upgrade T-55/72?

Not sure, but T-55s are now only used for target practice.

If these were operational working tanks, It could have been feasible..

But as i said, These tanks are out of order and need expensive overhaul and again need a expensive upgrade, combining all these it would cost as a New Tank same as Arjun MK1..

Its better to buy a new generation tank at the same cost..

new tank is new tank and old tank is useful for few years only, plus new tank also give feel of edge to our tank crews that they have new tank at the time of war.

there is only one role for t-55 and t-72 tanks in the army and that is target practice for arjun mbt and nag missile.
Times for a massive Arjun mk-2 order after the trials. I think a large 2000 Tank order is a must right away. T-72 and 55 are indeed target practice tanks.
As a MBT taking the role of formation spearhead, the T-55s and the T-72 are well past their retirement age in the modern battlefield. However it would be naive to think that their presence is absolutely meaningless.

The 900 old T-72s will in all probability be transferred to the Army reserve stockpile, and a few to the army Engineer corps and the territorial army. They may be useless against MBTs, but are extremely lethal against massed/dug-in infantry. In fact even WWII tanks are merderous when faced with infantry as the opponent.

These old tanks could perform the role of infantry mobile fire support, assisting in area domination operations and urban warfare, or play a supporting role in defensive formations.

Then there is also the fact that these tanks can be used for securing logistics lines, relieving the MBTs for frontline duty.

T-55s are all rusting in some shed. However, T-72s can be lightened up a bit and upgraded with electronics to be used as medium tanks instead of the planned light tanks in NE China Border and Ladakh.

T-72s are hardly relevent in the rajasthan/punjab theater any more.

After media hype [ who knows whether one staged] .IA might sse it an opportunity to place an order to Russian super duper tank. Election are on the corner & lot of money shall be required to finance it. Won't be surprised to see a big order for T-90 MS is placed along with puny numbers for Arjun-MK-II to keep everybody happy.

Well, why cant we use the Tank Ex or Karna tank as it's replacement? It seemed a good one.

More ever I think Tanks today are obsolete. We should better insist to make any multipurpose light man portable Rocket launcher, which's Rocket can be uses as anti-aircraft,anti tank and anti personnel.

TANK - EX was not succeeded coz Russian didn't authorized modification of existing T-72M1 chassis rather offered new Imported chassis, Hence cancelled..

But we can surly do the same trick with T-55 chassis..

I still think the best option for us would be FICV+WPB Anders turret.

That was because T-72M's turret front is not even enough to protect against Arjun's APFSDS or even the stupid old RPG-7's 1960's PGM-7VL HEAT warhead with probe.

It was unmitigated disaster. They could have taken out turret, up armour and use it like Pantherturm or R-35 turrets in Siegfried line. But still would not have been effective.

Why waste money on another replacement for T72 tanks or its long term modernization, we should start replacing all T-72 tanks with Arjun Mk2 and Mk3 tanks.
say 1200 Arjun tanks, 2000 T90 tanks.
and as Kunal sir suggested, we need light tanks in north.
So, take T-72 tank and put an auto 105 mm turret (can take polish turret for same),, f@$k the russian permission, we need not tell them that we are making any change to our tanks.

So any other suggestions?

You need to take in to consideration economics and logistics.

IMHO I would leave all current designs, be it T-72, T-90 and Arjun as their are and abandone their further evolution.

Instead there is a nececity for radical rethinking the vehicle design, and there are several questions to answer.

Do you need a dedicated base platform? No, it is better to design an unified platform (you can design several such platforms in different weight classed, be it wheeled or tracked).

Such solution is logical, unified platform means you do not waste huge pile of money and time as well as other resources on different dedicated platforms but a platforms with unified components like suspension, engine, transmission, electronics etc.

You can have both an Main Battle Tank and Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle for army heavy brigades, well armored, unified, which reduce production costs, logistic problems (they can for example use exactly the same engine, transmission and suspension, as well as wheeld and tracks), and also training, remember that you train not only crews but also maintnance personell.

On such platforms you can place also special variants, like Armored Revocery Vehicles, Command Vehicles, SPAAG's, SPGH's, MEDEVAC's etc.

With such concept in mind, it is foolishness to waste all avaiable resources on existing vehicle designs.
