Let us see what INS Vishal looks like when the ship's proposal is sent to mod for approval.

I do not share some members enthusiasm for rafale m or nuclear powered carrier.

As for size of Indian economy, it is impossible to see 10 years in the future.

Money is a problem right now and DM has already said so publically.

All expensive programs are under review.

I do not think a naval fgfa is a possibility either.

The government is facing a squeeze on tax collections and the world economy is entering a weak period.

The best case is to continue existing programs rather than start new programs.

The government knows very well that growth part of Indian economy, services, is very dependent on global growth.

It is a fact that global growth is grinding to below 1% now.

Mod has to be realistic what it can purchase based on what resources it has.

I have a fear that ins vishal may get cancelled.

The defence forces are getting too much ahead of what the country can realistically provide.

The central govt collects just 100 billion in taxes out of which 45 billion is spent on security alone. Anybody can do the math how much flexibility government has.

In earlier congress government, the FM always did lip service by proclaiming that funds are not a problem for defence. But in reality nothing happened.

This time the FM and DM are realistic about what they can do.

Could've fooled me. o_O ... and how can N-AMCA be on the anvil when no metal has even been cut for the IAF version yet?
Too early mate. They are as yet identifying potential roles that AMCA can fulfill. Expect to see flying prototypes only after 2025.

The agencies' job right now is to get the LCA Mk-2 working.

No one is making any orders yet, Dassualt is just pitching and the IN is weighing up its options, they have about 5-6 years to make a choice- ample time to evaluate all options. The IAC-2 will be in service by 2027 IMO.
2027 is highly optimistic 2030 is more likely as no way our reactor could be ready before that .

Lovers of American style Carriers should read this paper:

http://www.cnas.org/files/documents/publications/CNAS Carrier_Hendrix_FINAL.pdf

I think the concept of Indian IAC-I is correct for a medium intensity war. For a high intensity war, any Indian carrier may be useless.

It is debatable if IN can protect its carrier from China or similar combatants.

There is a race between the three arms to buy the most expensive weapon systems. It almost seems the realities have been left far behind.
