Around 50 Chinese protesters surrounded the official car of the United States ambassador in Beijing, who escaped unharmed, according to the US State Department.

The melee occurred outside the gates of the US embassy and security guards had to intervene to protect Gary Locke, 62. The protesters caused minor damage to the vehicle.

"Embassy officials have registered their concern regarding today's incident with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and urged the Chinese Government to do everything possible to protect American facilities and personnel," the statement said.

The incident happened on Tuesday, while large crowds of protesters were massed outside the Japanese embassy nearby, to demand that Japan relinquish control of an island chain claimed by China in the waters between the two countries.

yes. they have their brain isn't it. why do people think china send people to demonstrat against US? there are 100k protest each year in china on varies issues. the recent protest just one of many. as long its not human right/ democracy/religion freedom related, protest are allowed in china

If however, we can turn this crowd on the Monarchy of China, asking questions, making decisions, out for a solution, South Asia would be a lot more peaceful. China, then, Sir, would not support terrorist regimes all over the world, or support nuclear proliferation schemes.

However the Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei tweeted a photograph of the protest on Tuesday afternoon, and said the crowd had chanted: "Down with US imperialism" and "Pay us back our money!" referring to the trillion dollars or so of US government debt that China holds.

First the crowd in China attacks the Japanese Ambassador and now the US ambassador.

The Chinese need to look into this issue, they are supposed to ensure minimum level of protection to the the Embassy staff of foreign countries. The Chinese Government needs to pass the message to the people that this behaviour cannot be condoned. And if there is an official sanction or whether the Government machinery overlooked it then it is a very serious issue.

You cannot compare the two events. One was a accident which happened in a war zone, and the other looks like the Government is giving a long rope to the protestors, in a country where protest is clamped down hard.
