CWG: Two senior Indian officials arrested in Glasgow
GLASGOW: IOA general secretary Rajiv Mehta and wrestling referee Virender Malik were arrested in Glasgow on Saturday on separate charges.
According to reports, wrestling referee Virender Malik has been arrested for alleged sexual assault while Rajiv Mehta has been arrested for alleged drunken driving.
The two officials, however, are not part of the official 215-strong contingent which is staying in the Games village. Both of them were reportedly lodged at a local hotel.
Media reports, quoting a Scotland Yard spokesperson, stated that "two male members — aged 45 and 49 — were arrested on separate charges."
While one of them was reportedly arrested in the Glasgow city centre, the other official was held in the west of the city, which is hosting the 20th Commonwealth Games.
Reports added that the two officials will remain in police custody over the weekend, and will be produced before a Glasgow magistrate on Monday.
India is currently fifth in the medals tally of the Commonwealth Games.
