Having maps in some Arab dialect implies their possibility of being an Uighur could be lesser. Else, those maps should have been in some Turk dialect, right ?
Ya, Arabic, that' s puzzling. Turkish is said to be comprehensible by many Uyghurs in the same Turkic group. Turkey harbors the most Uyghur radical organizations. FSU had worked guts out to divide a "Turkistan" concept into Kazakhstan, Turkemenstan, Uzebekstan and so on.

Still a big Q whether the trio are Chinese.

Sources said that through their gestures Army has understood that the trio is labourers and have strayed into Indian Territory after losing track.

Need to know when maps were published and by whom. Maps could be reproductions of ones made centuries ago.

Yeah, that's right. But here, the question is about their antecedents/credentials ? Howsoever old the maps are, they are in a language that these guys understand, right ?
And, Arab maps point to a non-Xingiang origin (Xingiang being a Turkish populace). Just speculating.

Not necessarily, as a practical matter, since the key information of a map is graphical. Meaning of marginal information of a map can be inferred if necessary and the user does not know the language.

Chinese infiltrators charmed by Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan movies - The Times of India

LEH: As security agencies probe the motive behind the infiltration of three Chinese Muslims through Sino-India border, the trio is singing a different tune.

If the responses of the three persons to the interrogators are to be believed, it was the charm of Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and HrithikRoshan that apparently drove them to India. They were detained last month.

The three — Salamo, Abdul Khaliq and Adil Thorsong — at present in the custody of security agencies at Margo post in north of Ladakh after being detained on June 12, had told their interrogators about their dreams to enter India and earn money as they were facing acute poverty in their region, official sources said.

According to the sources, there was incoherence in their statements except that they were mesmerized by the charm of Bollywood superstars — Khan and Roshan.

The three claimed that they were driven out by extreme poverty from home and wanted to come to India because they had seen it as a land of prosperity on the silver screen, the sources said.

The three claimed during their interrogation, which were conducted separately, that the movies of Khan and Roshan were a hit in their area — Kargalilik of Xianjang province.

The trio, who knew only two languages — Yarkandi and Uyghur — gave different versions about their family background and the way used by them to come into India.

The security agencies were still not convinced and their interrogation would continue, sources said. The three men, aged between 18 and 23, one of whom is one-eyed, were nabbed inside Indian territory on June 12, near Sultanchku.

They are, at present, in the custody at Murgo post, where the interrogators have been flown in along with a translator.

It was also not clear from where they had come, as the nearest habitation across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was in north of Karakoram range. Authorities are working on the possibility that they could have entered through either Raki Nallah, Jeevan Nallah or north of Daulat Beig Oldie, where Indian and Chinese troops had a face-off for nearly 21 days, between April 15 and May 5.

The three men also could not give a clear description of the areas traversed by them to enter India. Besides this, there was also apprehension about the fact that the three could have been headed towards Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir which is barely 30km up north of the area from where they were nabbed.

The three men were carrying a big political map and two smaller versions of the document with Arabic and Yarkandi script on it.

Besides this, they were carrying improvised swords and knives, tinned food including egg powder (useful in higher regions), Chinese currency of over 900 yuan and Chinese leather jackets.

The three claimed that the jackets, discarded by Chinese troops, have been picked up by them.

Both summer and winter road connectivity to this post were cut off due to bad weather in Ladakh region this year, and therefore, security agencies airlifted the interrogators and the translators to the post where the three were detained.

According to the laid down procedure along the LAC, the custody of any accused apprehended in the area has to be with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and interrogation can be carried out by central security agencies.

Home Min recommends prosecution of three detained Chinese

The Home Ministry has recommended prosecution of three Chinese nationals who had infiltrated into the Ladakh sector of Jammu and Kashmir in June as the statements given by them to interrogators were contradictory.

All of them had an advance knowledge of Indian defence posts and routes taken by troops during patrolling in the higher reaches of Ladakh, official sources said.

The decision taken by the Home Ministry has been conveyed to authorities concerned in Ladakh for bringing down the three — Salamo, Abdul Khaliq and Adil Thorsong — to Leh from Margo post in north Ladakh where they have been kept since June 12 after being detained near Sultanchku, the sources said.

The statements of all the three, who have been kept separately since their detention, were completely contradictory and the interrogators believe that the three were lying about the route taken by them to enterIndia, they said.

Various security agencies, which questioned them, expressed surprise that the three had the knowledge of the Indian posts and routes taken by the patrols to higher reaches along the Sino-Indian border but feigned ignorance about any of the Chinese camps across the Line of Actual Control (LAC), they said.

The trio, who speak only Yarkandi and Uyghur languages, could not give any basic details about Kargalilik of Xianjang province from where they claimed to belong, according to the sources.

The small political maps seized from the three were torn from local school books, the sources said, adding that apprehension was being expressed that they could have been headed towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) which is barely 20 kms up north of the area where they were nabbed.

The way the Chinese have been acting along the LAC, maybe it's better that these chaps be shown the right way to PoK and not be handed to the Chinese.

Bollywood twist to intrusion by three Uyghur men into Leh
NEW DELHI: Investigations into the illegal intrusion of three Chinese Uyghur men into India who had sneaked into Leh two months ago have taken a curious 'Bollywood' turn. First suspected to be headed to Pakistan and linked to terror groups, the men have now turned out to be clean with interrogations revealing that they were actually headed to Mumbai to meet Shah Rukh Khan.

They told their interrogators from Intelligence Bureau (IB) that they had seen several films of the superstar and were massively influenced by them. "They said they wanted to visit Mumbai for the dual purpose of meeting the superstar and finding a better life for themselves as they came from impoverished backgrounds and thought India could give them that," an officer privy to their interrogation said.

Interestingly, now China has asked that the men be handed over to them even as India prepares to hand them over to local police for passport violation.

In June, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) had detained three Chinese men who had entered Leh from China's restive Xinjiang province. Identified as Adil, Salamo and Abdul Khaliq, the three had no passports and were found carrying improvised knives, swords and a political map of India with markings in Arabic. Initially, language barrier prevented a detailed interrogation of the men.

Being Uyghur Muslims and given their origins in Xinjiang which has been in the terror crosshairs of late with several Pakistani terror groups having grown footprints there, Indian agencies were rattled with the developments. Given the circumstances, the men were suspected to be heading to Pakistan for terror training.

Intelligence agencies have earlier had information of Uyghur Muslims being trained in Pakistani terror camps. China has even accused Pakistan openly of fanning terror in Xinjiang.

However, detailed interrogation with help from translators and investigations of the men revealed nothing incriminating about them except the absence of valid travel documents. "The Arabic script on the political maps is actual Uyghur language which is written in Arabic script. The maps are easily available in markets of the region to which the men belong. They have nothing else to suggest that they are either criminals or terrorists," an officer said.

However, since they had illegally entered India without a valid passport, they will be handed over to local police for further action on passport violation, sources said.

It would be highly ironic if India released those three to cause trouble for China in Kashmir, and then they wound up killing some Indian soldiers around the LoC.

Another cheap story invented by Indian media, what kind of update do we expect? It's gonna be forgotten and buried in the countless stories of the same kind.
