First of all, WE did not ask for favours.

If we did, then we would be going to Peking and not the Chinese Premier come scurrying and hotfoot to India.

Check your figures, with the recession, the US and EU markets are drying up. India is your market to compensate and that is why Wen has brought the largest business delegation ever! So, stop dreaming with the haze of propaganda and self delusion!

Wen and China are scared of the US coalescing all countries in the Asia Pacific Rim, that appears to be on the table as personified by Obama's visit to Asia.

China requires India and not the other way around, more so if we vigorously follow our Look East policy!

Quit showing Dutch courage!
Of course we come to you, you are the customer. In order to make money, you have to knock every potential customer's door. That is all about sales.

India declines to affirm 'One China' policy
it seems to me Mandarins are a bit weird or even foolish , to obstinately ask for affirming 'One China' on almost every diplomatic occasion then express 'appreciation' for affirmation in return.

it should have been going without saying as a built-in term upon establishment of diplomatic relationship.

even such a reiteration of 'one China' doesn't change duplicity prevailing in the world. instead it gives the counterpart a handle

Just to be sure, there is no one here to force india to buy any chinese goods. The only reason you buy our products is that its excellent cost-effectiveness rate. So, if you don't like our product, just leave it and walk away. Simple as that.

That is true, they are cost effective goods that come out of China.

It does not pain to discard them after even the first use and consequently failure thereafter - it is that cheap!

And one gets good value for scrap, since the metals that constitute such goods are worth their weight!

Of course we come to you, you are the customer. In order to make money, you have to knock every potential customer's door. That is all about sales.
You are right.

Indeed, shopkeepers do cringe and scrape to keep themselves relevant and to stoke the fires of their hearth and home!

What is One China?

All areas claimed by China including those annexed by force?

One hardly sees Taiwan joining China.

Of course Taiwan will trade with China, for after all, Chinese are very good businessmen and they drive sharp bargains.

Just see them in action in the free world. There is no doubt they are very hardworking and satisfied with the basic minimum. That is how they do so well in business, where they start small, but end up doing very well. They are also industrious.

One has to visit any Chinatown around the world to observe them in action.

I had a great time observing them in Chinatown in Singapore. I found the best bargains there as also in Mustafa in Little India! The difference was the in Chinatown, they worked out of small shops while Mustafa was a departmental store stretching over blocks and it was a 24 hour open store!

As far as Wen's visit goes, it was more of a cosmetic hoopla than anything else.

What Wen did not say:

  1. No clear support for India's Security Council seat.
  2. Nothing on Mumbai blast.
  3. Nothing on Pak export of terrorism.
  4. No real concession to Indian to even the trade deficit.
  5. No firm commitment on India's demand for great access to the Chinese Market.

The trip was a political disaster i think and will only further increase indian apprehensions in chinese intentions. We should see some fierce fighting on international stage between the two countries.

Nothing on Mumbai blast.
Nothing on Pak export of terrorism.
why shall a bilateral thing turn out to be trilateral? is it well advised to take side when it involves a 3rd party?

No real concession to Indian to even the trade deficit.
No firm commitment on India's demand for great access to the Chinese Market.
trade deficit has to be resolved through expanding trade. forgive my ignorance - I'm aware India's IT and pharmaceuticals have a competitive edge but what else?

He's Just Not That Into You
Whether the person is standing or sitting, pay attention to where the feet point, says a body language manual. "If the feet are pointing to an exit, this likely indicates that the individual desires to depart from the current situation," it says. Now just look at where the feet of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indian PM Manmohan Singh are pointing as they exchange pleasantries. The picture was taken before a meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday

If there was an terrorist attack in Shanghai and devastated China done by Uighurs, would it not be appropriate to condemn terrorism in general? Or should one gloat that good thing that Chinese have been sorted out said by stunning silence?

High quality products to start with.

While I don't wish it, but I would surely await your reaction when the Uighurs gives a knock or two, in greater intensity than what they gave you the last time.

And Uighurs are trained in Pakistan.

That is why you are hardly making headway in Balochistan.

Here's my take on that PAK 'terrorism' thing -

It's just natural for different countries to take different attitudes towards the same issues in the world community. Can Beijing 'coerce' or simply 'request' visting foreign leaders to condemn those Uigur or Tibetan 'rioters' too? In China they may be regarded as 'criminals', 'separatists' or 'fundamentalists' or 'hooligans'. but some others may trumpet they're 'freedom fighters' against CCP suppression.

In the end people have to agree to differ. Instead of playing doublespeak keeping silence may be a good alternative.

Perhaps Pakistan does house a few Uigur 'terrorists'. But it remains a bilateral thing. Pulling a 3rd party into the show may further complicate the problem.

You guys already made it trilateral when your gov tried to block JuD's (the guys financing the Mumbai attacks) designation as a terrorist organization in the UN

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Friday called on visiting Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and flagged several contentious issues, including that of stapled visas being issued to people of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Swaraj firmly conveyed to the Chinese Prime Minister that the stapled visas being issued to Kashmiris should be stopped forthwith," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

She also expressed her concern over Chinese incursions into Arunachal Pradesh, saying this was not fair as the state is a part of India.

The BJP also reacted to Chinese statements that it was neutral to both India and Pakistan.

"Swaraj told Jiabao that India is a victim and Pakistan a perpetrator of terrorism so how can the two be treated equally," Prasad said.

The principal opposition has raised these issues from time to time at the national level and in Parliament and asked the UPA government to be firm while dealing with China.

The Leader of Opposition requested Jiabao to allow Indian pharmaceutical and software companies access to the Chinese market.

Jiabao enquired about former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee's health and fondly recalled his visit to China during the NDA regime.

No one will support Uighurs if it is proved that they acted without provocation.

I take it that you are suggesting that the Mumbai blast perpetrators acted because of provocatibn.

If that is what you are saying, then what was the provocation?

Surely you don't think that Kasab and gang are mere 'criminals', 'separatists' or 'fundamentalists' or 'hooligans' which is what you term the Uighurs in China.

With trade heavily balanced in favour of China and china ready to ask for more and more access. This cannot be a one way road. shouldn't we use this as leverage in bargaining with china. we should clearly tell them that you need to give us following .
1. remove stapled visa for kashmir people .
2. stop illicit support to Pakistani nuclear programs .
3. stop activity in Gilgit baltistan .
4. sufficient progress on border issue.
If not we should be more than happy to screw their surplus in trade and go on economic offensive. they are bound to loose more than we will as trade is heavily balanced in their favour and will tilt even further.
I have been following his trip and it seems that chinese are here only for business and there is no sign of any progress on political front.
Please not ask too much from China, a trade relationship benefits both sides, when China only have little business with India, China is very ok, if India reduce the trade, it's also will be ok with China. The Government is suffered of the trade surplus( we all know that China labors hard to sell its' own resources very cheap for the shit green papers), but the private exporter need to export, I export China made auto spare parts and accessories, our company has some Indian customers, one in India some in Dubai, but only 5% of our total trade.
China focus mostly on the USA,only wish India not work with the USA to contain us, that's all.

This trip is a disaster for India . As Times Now is saying " a trip that archived nothing " at least for India . we are fooled once again by clever Chinese.
you already posted that in Chinese media, the tone is very soft for friendship and cooperation, so this trip is a success for both India and China

Please not ask too much from China,
when your demands are genuine and justified one shouldnot hesitate in asking for it. Our demands are genuine.

a trade relationship benefits both sides,
well this benefit it much more for china as trade is heavily balanced in their favour. Still they want us to open our market for them and are not ready to reciprocate that .

China is very ok, if India reduce the trade, it's also will be ok with China.
Then why hoopla after Indian government decided to at against ZTE and Hua wei ?

China focus mostly on the USA,only wish India not work with the USA to contain us, that's all.
china work mostly on USA and we work mostly on China and Pakistan. China has to prove that they are not enemies. Nothing better than kisking Pakistan's ass for terrorist activities and
stop helping them with missiles and nukes.

Its all business only for China . China has failed to deliver even on business front. what steps or assurances were given to address trade imbalance. what about more market access to IT and pharmaceutical companies ?
