03-12-2013, Want China Times website LINK: wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?id=20131203000106&cid=1101 Experts in China are discussing the possibility of the People's Liberation Army to establish a missile base on the moon following the successful launch of the Long March-3B rocket carrying the Chang'e-3 lunar rover on Dec. 1, according to the Beijing Times. An expert from the China National Space Administration's Lunar Exploration Programme Center told the paper that China plans to send its first astronaut to the moon by 2030. By 2050, the moon could become a base from which to send the country's manned spacecraft to explore deep space, the source said. He added that the moon is the Earth's only natural satellite, and it can be transformed into a deadly weapon. Like the Death Star in Star Wars, the moon could hypothetically be used as a military battle station and ballistic missiles could be launched against any military target on Earth. Various weapons testing sites could also be established on the moon, the source said. China is currently the only nation with a lunar exploration program and the Chang'e-3 is only the beginning of a more ambitious program, the source added.
I think moon doesnt make a good death ray, or it doesnt have minerals, hence they are abandoning their moon program after the next mission (i.e no manned mission to the moon in the forseeable future, past 2020), also their mars missions have also been postponed for a bit. It seems they are going concentrate on building a *real* deathstar (read:space station). 消æ¯ç§°ä¸å›½å°†å–消载人登月计划 åœæ¢ç ”å‘嫦娥五å·|登月|月计划_凤凰资讯 (google translate, posted by a chinese user in another forum). Interesting decision, as the spacestation will certainly give them a lot more tangiable benefits, plus no one is going to know what they do inside it. Guys....actually, wouldnt a nuclear powered space station be a great way to cruise around space and threaten people? Or just go cruising around the galaxy in general?
So China wants to be the Empire from Star Wars? By the time the make that this is what a French captain would do... Chinis better pray the force is with them.

Unnamed 'expert'? Probably some drunken ramblings from a mid-level functionary with no technical expertise or decision-making ability. If anything, this article should demonstrate that WantChinaTimes is not a credible source when it comes to the Chinese natsec apparatus...
Could you please enlighten us as to how to differentiate the ramblings and decision making ability of a mid-level CCP functionary with those of a top-level one?
Anyone who speaks their minds without considering covert psycops and long term strategic goals of amalgamating other country's territories is a mid-level CCP functionary, whereas who masquerades their thoughts and engage in sweet talks on the outside while harboring ill intentions on the inside is a high-level CCP functionary.
Could you please enlighten us as to how the burden of proving that the opinion of this 'expert' matters is not on WantChinaTimes?
Nobody asked you to prove the opinion of 'that' expert. Just asking you to get into the hairy details of 'your' opinion, that's all!
That is strange. After searching through google and baidu, I can't find any newspaper or magazine named as "Beijing Times"? I guess that must be a secretive newspaper in Washington.
A report in English that I could find. Apparently, the Chinese courts don't agree with you! Beijing court hears bottled water defamation case - People's Daily Online Are you really Chinese!?
Yes, you are right, I missed that since this newspaper doesn't have a English version and they don't call themselves Beijing times. But, I still don't think we need to take this story seriously.
