I think good for BAE and the US Navy.

Correction though, the US navy ditched at sea testing because of budget reasons, not because its "wasteful" or useless... Rail guns are being developed for at sea deployment - ie. shore bombardment and anti-air capability,

Both of which will be used at sea. At sea testing in real-world conditions is a MUST, not a luxury. The medium-voltage, direct-current transmission network replacing an alternating current based system must be tested in at-sea conditions. Risk assessments must be conducted in real-world testing. ie. AT SEA. If the US Navy is to ever deploy rail guns at sea, they too will eventually test their prototype at sea. Hyper-velocity rounds or no.

+ Who said land and at sea tests were conducted with a single prototype?
Nobody disputes the need for sea testing of railguns. But right now it will only be a validation or proof of concept. It will not lead to production versions. The biggest hurdle yet to this weapons system is the need to develop new materials for the barrel to withstand repeated firings.

It is very easy to build a railgun of any size, the problem is making a barrel that lasts more than a few shots. The US Naval Lab got it to several hundred but the requirement is 1000. They are taking a break from testing to build rails lined with graphene. There was no point going further with it until that is complete. Chinese railgun will be a one shot wonder.

The US navy had 1 railgun. That's why either shoot at sea and begin extensive land tests or go directly to land tests and deploy a full scale weapon than spend a PR stunt.

HVP is ammo of US railgun configured to fire from US navy 127/62 mm gun , US army 155 mm howitzer and US navy 155 mm guns. Thus it will deploy faster in a parallel program.

China too has 1 gun. Else we would have pics. Chinese PR loves the snapshots. How else do such 'leaks' occur and produce such highly detailed information.

There is no funding crunch. US has given $ 15mn for this plus an extra $ 15mn out of requested $ 28mn funded.

Hello guys, this news of China mounting up electro magnetic rail gun on their type 055 D destroyer... what will be the result of such a super advance technology in Chinese hands in the world? will it make Indian navy looks obsolete in front of them and will it give it an upper hand to Chinese even in front of American navy? I think this is a very serious threat, recently I had come across the news of India also test fired rail gun. How true is this?

Rail gun is experimental at this point of time. It does not have range as of now and can only go in a straight line.

So no worries unless there is some drastic advancements in the rail gun technology.

Great footage of DDG 172 CNS Kunming, a Type 052D destroyer launching a 3missile salvo of HHQ9B long range SAM's and HHQ10 SHORAD missiles during an air defense exercise.

Includes the Type 1030 CIWS gun firing a burst as well. Wish this was on youtube:

Progress on the first Type 055 destroyer:

The two Type 055 destroyers in Drydock at Dailan have been painted. Looks like they could be ready to launch this year:

Also in the pic are two Type 052D destroyers being outfitted and a third Type 055 hull being assembled to the right of the 2 in dry dock.

That pic kind of grainy because of the high level of zoom on it. Here's the original:

Dalian city: You can see at least five destroyers (possibly 7) with three Type 052Ds berthed for fitting and two 055s being constructed in the large drydock. There are the makings of two more DDGs in the section immediately in front of the 055s.

Yesterday morning, Type 052D Destroyer Guiyang/贵阳 (hull number 119) left Dailan headed for her new home port. She is to be commissioned into the North Sea Fleet under the 1st Destroyer Flotilla.

She will be the 9th Type 052D destroyer commissioned by the Chinese Navy and is the 3rd to be commissioned this year after the destroyers Urumqi and Nanjing.
