It is very likely that the J-15 will only serve as a trainer or a backup fighter, as its close lineage to the J-11B allows pilots to make a smooth transition from operating land based fighters to carrier based aircraft. The J-15 in fact can be viewed as a J-11B with arresting hooks and new avionics.

The main fighter fleet will most likely be one of China's many semi stealthy fighter programs (most likely the J-19 or the single engine J-2X), with initial batch probably entering service in a couple of years and peak numbers being deployed when the Type 085 nuclear powered aircraft carriers enter service.

Um... yeah. China doesn't really have anything more advanced than the J-15 to put on it. They can't even get their domestic J-11s in mass production without a reliable engine. J-15 prototype is flying with Russian turbofans.

Then you've got a lot of reading and researching to do. Read Richard Fisher's articles. Read James Dunnigan's articles. Heck, even read ones from aviation sites. The Chinese have multiple progams undergoing (J-16, J-18, J-19, and J-2X are some examples). They have different roles each as well as different configurations and capabilities. The J-19 is the only carrier based fighter from that group, and its increased stealth and conformal weapons bays make it perfect for carrier roles in this day and age.

Speaking of J-11s and reliable engines, all indigenous J-11B and J-15 variants are now fitted with WS-10A engine, which performs superior in every aspect to the Al-31F. News flash, amigo.

It really doesn't matter what they have in development. What matters is what gets inducted.

Uh....no. J-15 is clearly powered by AL-31Fs. News flash... J-11Bs don't have WS-10As installed yet except for testing.
