J31 is a serious case of "Industrial Espionage", IMHO the leaked documents of DCNS Scorpene subs was a doing of ... yes the elephant in the room... China. Ok another surprise, if you think about it, things get more relevant. Why those document showed up thousand of miles across the sea, but only in "Australia" when a news publication revealed it all.

That's because, a significant amount of lobbying is going on in Australia, so much that there own government admits they might loose control. When there PM admitted to state media there was a crackdown, but nothing is stopping the deep state within China to lobby in the dark. Imagine if the chinese deep sate has so much funding that it can topple governments, much like US exercised since 70s, than wouldn't they have the means to just pass along classified document to news publication? Hell yeah, it would be butter smooth.

If they have the means to buy S300 from Ukraine, or Flankers form Ukraine and reverse engineer it, because russian's denied the tech earlier than getting mere classified document form black market will be a cake walk.

They are playing the game called, law of large numbers, because no matter how cutting edge tech you will build, sheer numbers will always dominate the play... Now hold on, you might think the infamous case of Soviets doing the same yet they pulled an axe on themselves, because economics can be a bitch.

But Chinese aren't idiots, they saw what happen'd to soviets back in the 90s, so they modified there approach a bit. They starting allowing agents in disguise to buy large properties outside of there homeland, invest in businesses that are going to go bankrupt and taking over them, LA is the major example. So Building frugal knockoffs which shouldn't be in any circumstance taken lightly because if the platform can have few choke point, it's still a steady stream of doable things.

if industry espionage were able to works so much, many countries (including india) would work out 5g birds like j31 just by sending spys All over the world..

however, it does not work much, because the precondition to work out 5g birds is decent industry chains and R&D infrastructures.

blueprints can be acquired overnight by industry espionage ,but industry chains and R&D infrastructures can not.

China has spent decades and billions of dollars setting up necessory industry chains/R&D inftrastructure,before 'industry espoinage(if existed) could work.
