BEIJING: India and China were engaged in tough bargaining on Monday with Beijing seeking an assurance that New Delhi would not encourage "American interference" in the region. The Indian delegation, lead by National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, will continue discussion on the border dispute and the passport controversy.

At the talks, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo said bilateral ties should not be affected by "noise" and instead focus on further cooperation, Xinhua news agency said. Dai was apparently referring to criticism in India that border talks haven't produced tangible results. Chinese leaders revealed a strong desire to keep India out of the emerging club of nations â€" Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines â€" involved in territorial disputes with China. Beijing's anxiety offers an opportunity for India to negotiate some tough issues like China's continued arms support to Pakistan.

Its a good offer, if they are serious about it. If China makes a formal offer, India should talk about it and see how far the Chinese are willing to go.

We could ask for Indian ocean being our turf and E China sea being theirs.

India should not allow USN into Indian Ocean so that Chinese can have a firm foot-print in IOR and surround India in all directions.

If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride is an English saying.

At the present moment, it would be foolish of the Indian Govt to be taken it, given the new found belligerency China is exhibiting in the SCS including flying military aircraft over Japanese islands.

If China was indeed peacefully rising, then maybe it would be considered.
