China to provide 110 fighter jets to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will acquire 110 latest JF-17 Thunder fighter jets from China as the two countries forge closer economic and defence cooperation following President Xi Jinping's visit to Islamabad earlier this week, a media report said on Saturday.

Radio Pakistan reported that China will deliver the first batch of 50 jets over a period of three years. The head of Chinese aircraft industry told a Chinese daily that under the contract signed between the two countries, Pakistan will receive a total of 110 JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft from China.

It is not clear when the delivery of the remaining 60 jets will be completed.

The JF-17 Thunder is also built in Pakistan as China has already transferred its technology. But Pakistan needs more of these jets at faster pace due to its fight against Taliban militants.

Xi also launched a $46 billion economic corridor to link China's western region to Pakistan's Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea.

During Xi's visit, a fleet of eight JF-17 jets escorted the Chinese president's plane when it entered Pakistan's airspace. The two countries signed 51 agreements to boost economic cooperation during Xi's trip. Earlier, reports said China would provide eight latest submarines to Pakistan, more than doubling its fleet, in a deal worth $4-5 billion.

these are f7 replacements I guess. They will also go for advanced fighter jets in Chinese arsenal.

We need solid defence industry to counter both these countries. Naval aviation plays a good advantage, which also adds a new dimension to Indian armed forces.

We need to fill the gap quickly and we need to go for quality replacements.

LCA mark 2 plays a cruicial role in replacing mig 21.

Good show!!!

Do they have enough money in their $8 billion defence budget to buy fuel to fly these 110 fighters.

India needs to accept this new reality that there is ,now a military- strategic relationship between China and Pakistan. China has officially appointed Pakistan as regional hit man mainly against India just like what West has been using Pakistan for decades. India needs to prepare for a China-Paki military nexus BUT that does not mean India be the vassal of the West. India has been non-aligned and I believe can still afford to have Independent foreign policy. We don't need to underestimate power of 1.2 Billion Indians. The world have started moving back towards a bipolar world...one pole dominated by China-Russia and other pole dominated by Western countries. The greatest foreign policy challenge for India is ...how to maintain autonomy and independence and balance its relations with these two blocks ....without becoming anyone's vassal.

on Airshow China 2014 last year...

Airshow China 2014: Russia to supply China with more RD-93 turbofans - IHS Jane's 360

Airshow China 2014: Russia to supply China with more RD-93 turbofans

Russia is to supply China with an additional batch of 100 Klimov RD-93 turbofan engines for the FC-1/JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft before the end of 2016, officials said at Airshow China 2014 in Zhuhai.

The contract, signed between Rosoboronexport and Chinese officials, follows an original USD238 million contract for 100 engines concluded in 2005 and completed in 2010.

A joint venture between China and Pakistan, the JF-17 is currently only in Pakistan Air Force service.

The first contract for 100 RD-93s had an option for 400 more, which will be produced by Moscow-based machine-building plant Chernyshev, a division of the United Engines Corporation (UEC).

At Airshow China a high-ranking official in the Russian deputation confirmed that the fifth-generation Shenyang J-31/FC-31 is also equipped with the RD-93.

A UEC official also told IHS Jane's that the Russian company and the China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC) had signed an agreement to upgrade the RD-93. The agreement "comprises consecutive modernisation of the propulsion system in the area of increasing thrust and the arranging of the turbofans shipments to China", said the UEC official.

He did not specify when China would start to receive the upgraded RD-93. Under UEC's existing contract with CATIC the Russian company is to perform deliveries, designer supervision, maintenance, refurbishment, and assistance in organising the RD-93 overhaul for basic and export FC-1/JF-17 fighters.

@shiphone

Sir

I'm seeing 1300 km of combat radius claimed by both Chinese and Bakistani's

But honestly what you think

1) Forget India what is the response of GCC and Iran

That is new equilibrium that Pakis (and PRC by way of its iron (scrap metal) alliance) have made for themselves and only have themselves to blame ... their (PRC) weapon systems will be looking and being used more and more west ...

2) It is also a bit ironic that the engines of Pakis planes are Russian while our Tejas will be American and the Pakis have American planes and we have Russian planes ... it would be silly to say that it is like Iran and Iraq entanglement since we are much bigger in size and frankly understand principles but we have to be mindful

1.a 3000km max range without in-flight refueling is one of the remarkable request by PAF and it was listed in the FC-1/JF-17 R&D contract between PAF and CATIC at the very beginning...

2. JF-17/FC-1 chose a high lift-to-drag ratio characteristic aerodynamic layout @ high subsonic speed and relatively stubby fuselage (more inner space) at the cost of high speed performance(1.6 mach instead of 1.8) and some accelerating ability.

3. during the Basic range performance / endurance ability test of prototypes, they achieved a nearly 1900 km basic range (with internal fuel only plus two PL-5IIE SRAAM and standard reserve fuel is left)...the official claimed basic range is listed as 1800 km

4. 1300/1400 km radius claim is possible for such a combat profile:

A to A interception mode,
H-H-H flight profile ,
2*1100L+800L drop tanks(3000L fuel) with 2 SD-10A MRAAM and 2 PL-5IIE SRAAM-- around 3.3 tons external store (4.6 tons fuels in total),
the target might be a Large, Low mobility, air target (bomber, transportation plan)

so it is a very idealized claim...

5. if the target is set as a fighter (and other setting is unchanged), the radius would already be reduced remarkably, cos in such a Scenario normally a 5-minute air combat maneuvering with afterburner is set and calculated ...the Fuel consumption would be much higher when the wet thrust is used .

Think in simple manner.....If China+Paki are weaponizing furiously ...the only choice left for India is ...not to waste a minute and create most destructive weapons as soon as possible ....to counter this China-Paki build up. If India can do this...This all will become M.A.D. ..that is Mutually Assured Destruction...and weapons of all three nations will become irrelevant as the chance of war will become ZERO.....Every nation wants to survive..that is human instinct. My opinion is only way left is to create situation which yells "if attacked..its certain to be M.A.D." Peace will become essential then.....because NO nation can win.
