According to Russian media, China is developing a new generation of strategic bomber due to a breakthrough in technology to reduce the size of a high-temperature, air-cooled nuclear reactor.

The new type bomber will be nuclear powered with shocking advanced shape and weapons. The bomber will be called H-11 bomber much superior to the existing medium-sized H-6Kbomber.

China began development of strategic bombers in the 1970s, but lacked the technology.

Through accumulation of technology for decades, it now is able to develop a strategic bomber.

However, it will take a long time to design and commission the bomber and make it combat effective.

The new nuclear strategic long-range bomber, codenamed "Light of Five Stars," will enhance China's nuclear deterrent to an unprecedented high, and enable China to have overwhelming air superiority.

Its cruise speed will be Mach 3.6 and it can remain flying at high speed for 3.5 months incessantly.

It can carry 170 to 210 sets of nuclear bombs depending on the density and scale of its targets.

Nuclear powered bomber? Forget the nukes it carries, the bomber itself is a risk to all. I hope any crashes are in China itself when they start operating.

1) How will a bomber give them air superiority?

2) What the ---- will they achieve with a nuclear bombing run? Isn't anything after 1 nuke redundant? Maybe they plan for it to to go around bombing countries one after the other.

This is probably fake news, as ICBMs have been shown to have faster response times, more survivability with modern penetration aids, and a better cost-benefit ratio (once you consider that the bomber will have no airbase to land at once it has embarked on any mission requiring it to jettison dozens of nukes, obviating the traditional advantage of bombers vs missiles).

1.why does a bomber needs to carry 200 nukes??attack 200 targets without getting intercepted over enemy territory??

2.the assumed fictional capability of the bomber is to stay aloft for 3.5 monthshplease: at mach 3.6 cruise speed..even the legendary sr-71 has a max speed of mach 4 and can not stay longer than few hours.the problem is no jet can withstand such stress leading to airframe fatigue.

3.does chinese have any jet engine than can run continuously for 3.5 months with out repairs/maintenance

FYI, that airframe is the basis of a future bomber (H-11? 12? 15? no one knows). What the airframe implies is a subsonic or transonic, low-altitude, stealthy missile carrier.

Note the wing structure (will be filled with large fuel tanks relative to the engine size) and side-by-side seating for the pilots. Both are needed for human and aircraft mission endurance. We're looking at 18-24 hour missions at 700-800 km per hour, or just enough range to hit Hawaii and come home via a circuitous route.

Basically, China is building a missile carrier that can penetrate the First Island Chain with enough stealth to credibly threaten Central Pacific installations or U.S. carrier groups with barrages of cruise missiles.

Each warhead weighing 200kgs at least = 40,000 kg total payload. All with proper rails to drop the bombs.

What's more Chinas nuke stockpile is 225-240 right now. Unless they want to get that to a few thousands, such a project is useless. China stopped fissile material production but then China can lie through their teeth.

I don't heard anything about those things claimed by russian media from the 6XX research institute----which is the owner of this mock-up....LOL...

next time, let's talking about something decent from somt reliable source to save the time and energy which is quite limited and precious for us..

some large image --------and actually there is another UAV project mock-up 'Sharp Sword' along with this 'Medium Bomber Concept' from the same R&D team...this is the internal exhibition room of this famous research institute of China...members from china should know this well....LOL

this UAV has already appeard and taxied in this May.

If they have concepted such a Nuke powered aircraft, then it will not for carrying nukes, but to carry cargo. To avoid getting chocked in the Malacca straits. To reduce the shipping time of their products.

Quite apart from anything else, a nuclear bomb does so much damage and gives such a big blast that an aircraft has to drop one and get away quickly and not be laden down by 199 more bombs while it gets away. After that it needs to fly at least 100 km to the next city to drop bomb 2, and get away with the weight of 198 bombs. Then it flies another 200 km to city 3 and drops a third bomb. So it would need a range of at least 25,000 km to drop 200 bombs and finish off one big country (or a Japan and Korea in one go)

Only two bombers need to be made. One to be kept in reserve in case pilot of bomber 1 gets flu.

Let me tell you guys a more credible story. I swear its true. Tonight I will publish pictures of the rollicking time I had with and number of Hollywood and Bolllywood actresses just last night. I only finished 15 minutes ago and immediately logged in here.

Nuclear Test Aircraft

The first modified B-36 was called the Nuclear Test Aircraft (NTA), a B-36H-20-CF (Serial Number 51-5712) that had been damaged in a tornado at Carswell AFB on September 1, 1952. This plane was redesignated the XB-36H, then the NB-36H and was modified to carry a 3 megawatt, air-cooled nuclear reactor in its bomb bay. The reactor, named the Aircraft Shield Test Reactor (ASTR), was operational but did not power the plane. Water, acting as both moderator and coolant, was pumped through the reactor core and then to water-to-air heat exchangers to dissipate the heat to the atmosphere. Its sole purpose was to investigate the effect of radiation on aircraft systems.

To shield the flight crew, the nose section of the aircraft was modified to include a 12-ton lead and rubber shield. The standard windshield was replaced with one made of 6-inch-thick (15 cm) acrylic glass. The amount of lead and water shielding was variable. Measurements of the resulting radiation levels were then compared with calculated levels to enhance the ability to design optimal shielding with minimum weight for nuclear-powered bombers.

The NTA completed 47 test flights and 215 hours of flight time (during 89 of which the reactor was operated) between September 17, 1955, and March 1957[2] over New Mexico and Texas.[1] This was the only known airborne reactor experiment by the U.S. with an operational nuclear reactor on board. The NB-36H was scrapped at Fort Worth in 1958 when the Nuclear Aircraft Program was abandoned. After the ASTR was removed from the NB-36H, it was moved to the National Aircraft Research Facility.

Based on the results of the NTA, the X-6 and the entire nuclear aircraft program was abandoned in 1961.
