China resumes talks with Russia on Su-35

China has resumed negotiations with Russia over the purchase of "4++ generation" Sukhoi Su-35 multirole fighters. Although Moscow and Beijing had been discussing a deal for over two years, China halted the process for several months after details of the talks appeared in the Russian media.

Commenting on the resumption of the Su-35 negotiation process, a high ranking member of the Russian delegation said relatively slow progress with next-generation Chinese fighter designs has led Beijing to seek ways to purchase a quantity of the best Russian fighters to bridge the gap.

Moscow is ready to sell China a quantity of Su-35 fighters provided Beijing places a worthwhile order, "not merely a couple of specimens for reverse engineering", says a member of the Russian delegation. In particular, Russia is ready to sell China a substantial number of NIIP Irbis third-generation radars with passive electronic scanning and NPO Saturn Item 117S engines as part of a would-be Su-35 purchase.

So much for China's self-sufficient industry.

I still remember many Chinese members who kept rejecting this deal last year.

China resumes talks with Russia on Su-35 purchase

China has resumed negotiations with Russia over the purchase of "4++ generation" Sukhoi Su-35multirole fighters. Although Moscow and Beijing had been discussing a deal for over two years, China halted the process for several months after details of the talks appeared in the Russian media.

A large Russian delegation met Chinese representatives on the eve of Airshow China in Zhuhai to make an additional presentation on the Su-35. United Aircraft president Mikhail Pogosyan and Russian air force commander Gen Viktor Bondarev were among the members of the Russian delegation.

Commenting on the resumption of the Su-35 negotiation process, a high ranking member of the Russian delegation said relatively slow progress with next-generation Chinese fighter designs has led Beijing to seek ways to purchase a quantity of the best Russian fighters to bridge the gap.

Today, the Su-35 is the most advanced Russian heavyweight multirole fighter available for export sales. The more recent PAK-FA (T-50) is not considered sufficiently mature to be offered to China. Russia is working with India on the customised FGFA, but this is a co-development programme – an arrangement not available to China.

True or false, I don't know. Just thought we need

Supposedly, this news was reported in Flight Global which in turn came from Zuhai, not Moscow or anything.

Every aircraft has its merits, Su35 is certainly not an exception, and it is certainly a very fine aircraft. To say that China has mastered every little bit of technology that is found on Su35 would probably be a very arrogant statement. Thus it would be quite reasonable from China's view point to buy a few, say a dozen to build an aggressor unit or just have a detailed look at them. China is after all awash with money. The money China puts into metro projects each year alone (by 2020, 40 cities in China will have subways that run for more than 7,000 kilometers, 4.3 times the current length), is more than the defence budget of vast majority of countries on earth.

However, since China wouldn't be buying Su35 for any immediate tactical use, there is virtually no chance that China would order more than a token few.

Doesn't matter where the news came from because there is no sign that PLAAF is interested in Su35. I am not say SU35 is not a good plane, it is just not good enough, hence not worth buying.

Such fake news resurfaces again and again only because Russians attempt to get some attention for this plane, so that they can find some potential buyers. Whether China is negotiating or not doesn't matter, as long as China is mentioned, it is good for promotion.

At the end of day, Russians are gonna say the negotiation is halted because they fear that Chinese will infringe upon their IP right.

Are you dumb or something, this is the same russiki jokers bullishiting, the only difference is this time the russiki joker bullshiting at zhuhai

In the mean time, the russian put 117s engine (PAK-FA's jet engine) at Zhuhai airshow, but the russian officiers at Zhuhai admitted PLA shown ZERO interests in their engines here, so much for China want to buy Su-35 for their crap stone-aged PESA radar and 117s engine:rofl:

Flight Global does not BS as much as you believe. They are not a pro-Ruski organization either. They may have a credible source, otherwise Rosonboronexport won't simply be lying blatantly. The first news about the Su-35 deal did not come from Flight Global, this one did.

Doesn't matter where the news came from because there is no sign that PLAAF is interested in Su35. I am not say SU35 is not a good plane, it is just not good enough, hence not worth buying.
Currently, you have no inductions planned for this decade apart from your own home made Flankers, which don't necessarily have to be better than the Su-35BM. Your 5th gen fighters will mature around the same time as the PAKFA/FGFA. So, you will need something "now" which you can induct in 2015-18 followed by aircraft like J-20 after the decade, more or less. We have a very similar plan with the Super MKI and so do the Russians with the BM. The Americans are also looking at similar options due to F-35 delays, but mostly a "major" upgrade program for their F-15 and 16 fleets.

If you believe you can continue inducting older Flanker models (like J-11A/B) while completely ignoring the decade long gap between your pre-2000 models and the J-20, then you are sorely mistaken. At the same time your rivals are inducting more advanced aircraft than what you currently have during the same time period, like Super MKI, Rafale and BM. Note that these are all proven aircraft as compared to the J-20, which may take a decade more after being operational before it can be properly be inducted into PLAAF's doctrine.

Perhaps PLAAF believes the Su-35s can bridge the gap between what you currently have and what you will have a decade or two later. Perhaps SAC only wants Su-35s for reverse engineering and get the advanced version of J-11 (a Su-35BM equivalent) inducted before the decade, but this may take forever and at far greater cost than simply buying a regiment of BMs. Perhaps it is merely false news. So, how about we let time speak for itself.

Personally, I still stand with my earlier position of not allowing the export of the BMs. Perhaps, the above points help explain why I take such a stand.

Russia (or Soviet Union) is a respectful teacher and mentor of Chinese industrialization, no questions about it.
but Russian business men are not as professional in world level. We tried to buy IL 78, we tried to buy TU 160, we tried even to buy TU 22, in batches, they just cannot deliver them. or won't deliver them.

Su35 can definitely boost PLAAF's arsenal especially now with a stand-off vs Jap-American allied forces in East Sea, but where do we put them to use after it ?

Possibility is very lean for Chinese to acquire this fighter, we are not as Cash-ready as Indian.
