China restricts Muslim fasting

BEIJING (AFP) - Authorities in China's restive northwestern region of Xinjiang have banned Muslim officials and students from fasting during Ramazan, prompting an exiled rights group to warn of new violence. Guidance posted on numerous government websites called on Communist Party leaders to restrict Muslim religious activities during the holy month, including fasting and visiting mosques. Xinjiang is home to around nine million Uighurs, a Turkic speaking, largely Muslim ethnic minority, many of whom accuse China's leaders of religious and political persecution.

I fail to understand why China is a glutton for punishment.

Muslims are very sensitive about their religion.

China is only putting its finger in a hornets' nest!

Ramzan is a big deal as far as the Muslims are concerned.

The Communists must understand that.

Brigadier Sir, if I were you I wouldn't even whisper about it. Let the Chinese make the mistake :) Or may be, in a way not exactly a mistake though
Perhaps they shouldn't be this heavy handed.

The Chinese are so thickheaded and so enmoured of themselves and their ways, they will reject anything that is not trotted out by the CCP.

The CCP is otherwise a confused lot, except how to make money and more money and that too by the Communist Party apparatchiks who have used their position to loot China!

As if anyone will know who is fasting.

Office workers have to go to the office dining room and eat.

Same is the case with school and college children.

So, one cannot avoid not knowing who eats and who does not.

China restricts Ramadan fasting for Uighurs in Xinjiang

Authorities in China's restive northwestern region of Xinjiang have banned Muslim officials and students from fasting during Ramadan, prompting an exiled rights group to warn of new violence.

Guidance posted on numerous government websites called on Communist Party leaders to restrict Muslim religious activities during the holy month, including fasting and visiting mosques.

A statement from Zonglang township in Xinjiang's Kashgar district said that "the county committee has issued comprehensive policies on maintaining social stability during the Ramadan period.

"It is forbidden for Communist Party cadres, civil officials (including those who have retired) and students to participate in Ramadan religious activities."
The statement, posted on the Xinjiang government website, urged party leaders to bring "gifts" of food to local village leaders to ensure that they were eating during Ramadan.

Similar orders on curbing Ramadan activities were posted on other local government websites, with the educational bureau of Wensu county urging schools to ensure that students do not enter mosques during Ramadan.

The holy month began in Xinjiang on July 20. The orders to curb religious activities were sent out across the region at different times, some before the start of Ramadan and some afterwards.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and strive to be more pious and charitable.

China is discouraging some Muslims in the far western region of Xinjiang from fasting during Ramadan. The government says the move is motivated by health concerns
China is really concerned about the Uighur peoples health and that is why they are against fasting.

Very valid concern.

Regional spokeswoman Hou Hanmin was quoted in the state-run Global Times newspaper Friday as saying authorities encourage people to "eat properly for study and work" but don't force anyone to eat during Ramadan.
Is this not a valid reason for preventing fasting since it is so stupid to do so as it will prevent people fro working and studying?

After all the remainder world Muslims must be stupid and lazy because they fast, right?

There is "a much more public and concerted effort" than in previous years and in some cases Communist Party leaders are delivering food to village elders to try to get them to break their fast, according to Dru Gladney, a professor of anthropology at Pomona College in California and an expert on China's Muslim minorities.
Note how concerned the Chinese are about the Muslim peoples' health. They are home delivering food and making them eat!

Really very charitable the Chinese are during this Holy Month!

Ilham Tohti, a Beijing-based Uighur economist, said this year's campaign against participation in Ramadan was being more strictly enforced, with officials in some areas requiring people to sign pledges that they won't take part in religious activities.
How good of the Chinese. They are taking declaration in writing!

You can't thereafter blame them that they are forcing Muslims to do things that are wrong!

Nor yell about human rights violation and all that.

The Muslims themselves are giving in writing that all this Ramzan fast is a big farce!

Over the last few months, authorities in Xinjiang have stepped up a campaign against illegal religious schools, which they believe are fomenting extremism and separatist thought.
These madrassas and mosques are basically there to cause trouble.

So the Chinese is doing service to humanity!!!!
