One famous "deep throat" from CD leaked that many new birds will be shown before President Hu retires in 2012.

the "deep throat" is the one who leaked the finish of J15 in octo,2009,on CD ,which was comfirmed by Janes defence half a year later.

those 3 new birds will be finished and roll out before the end of 2012.

Peishens posted the following 3 birds of Yankees and suggested that the 3 new birds developed by 601 Institutute has the role and performance quite similar with the Yankees 3 birds.

so,I guess that the 3 new birds will be the upgraded J11B,new stealth drove and the light stealth figher.

guy. the refixment of Varayag is more difficult to build one complete new AC,because the whole internal structure of Varayag had been exploaded before CHina received it....

In fact, even Russians themselves can not refix it at all now,because quite a part of Soviet's big warship-building supply-chains lied in Ukraine, instead Russia. That is why Russian spends so many time restoring Gorshkov, the much smaller and simple AC.

In fact, even Russians themselves can not refix it at all now,because quite a part of Soviet's big warship-building supply-chains lied in Ukraine, instead Russia. That is why Russian spends so many time restoring Gorshkov, the much smaller and simple AC.

the object of CHina's refixing Varayag is obviouls beyond "getting one AC"....it is to accumulate China's AC-building experience.

Guy, we have known about the J-11 and J-XX programmes for nearly a decade. Your precious little CD didn't call anything when they are posting it a year before hand. PLA even announced the 5G test flight the following year when CD did, that is where they got the info.

Gawd, how many times do we have to go over this. Chinese are testing a plane "based on the J-10", probably what we know as J-10B which is "fourth generation." We also have pictures already posted of a whole tarmac full of J-11Bs still waiting on WS-10A that still isn't ready.

We have known China was working on a carrier take-off plane for over a decade when they failed to turn Varyag into a casino. We knew 5 years ago it was a clone of the T-10K they bought from Ukraine along with arrestor gear. There are no surprises here.

We have yet to see an actual J-15. The video they posted was an Su-30MKK of PLAN, it had no arrestor gear on it and the canards were slanted back, same as the MKK. Su-33/T-10K/J-15 have perpendicular canards as it is better for carrier landings.

goy, the Varayag is newer than the Gorshkov and it was mothballed after the collapse of USSR. Dont tell me its harder to restore an floating vessel which hardly saw service. There is nothing great in buying and restoring, how many is China building by itself?

J-15 is already undergoing flight tests. So, this bird is expected to be operational on the Varyag. Even 12 aircraft will be a good force on the Varyag and 24 would be even better. Dunno what the Chinese want their carrier to do after all. We can only speculate.

J15 is just one stopgap.......it will be replaced with one 5G navy bird one decade later at most.

The engine techs of China are weak. The difference of engine techs between China and western country is huge.China is far behind.
All kinds of engines including diesel engines for the tank ,submarine,truck and fighter engine etc.
If the engine issue is not solved, PLAAF is still weak.

So true, even when they get WS-10A working properly, it is no 5th gen engine. They won't be able to start a replacement for that until they get their hands on a new engine. Russia has yet to finish developing theirs and the US won't hand it over. Basing PLAAF on an inferior cloned AL-31F for the next 30 years might keep their planes flying, but leaves them even further behind. Not to mention the maintenance cycle for it is brutal.
