Thanks for your perspective.Brazilians feelings about Israel are divided. In one hand we are the biggest Catholic country, and the Church has a historical antisemitic custom. Furthermore we have a huge Arab descendents population, larger than that of Jews. This factors can contribute to a negative view of Israel. In other hand, Jews were present ever in Brazilian history. We have here the first synagogue of America's continent. Brazil voted in favor of Israel's creation in 1948 at UN. And more recently, Protestants are a growing religious group, and they are inclined toward Israel. They just built a copy of Salomon Temple for them, and claims it as biggest Brazilian temple, surpassing the National Basilica of the Catholic Church. So not all Brazilians are against Israel. Many likes it too.
Our diplomacy isn't ideological. We are pragmatics, but with principles. We defend nation's right of sovereignty, right of non interference, right of self determination, etc. Israel dont respect the national rights of Palestinians, then we think a provocation gesture Israel to appoint a zionist settler for here.
Btw, as far as the Christian beliefs are concerned it's the exact opposite for the American support to Israel. It's the Christians in American who support Israel through AIPAC because of some 'final return of God', 'Armagedon' theory.
