Not even the US could afford that for 24/7 coverage of all of its territory and bases. The best you could do is put up enough AWACs for a limited area and time of tension. SKA is under threat of attack any time and any place and it is not a small country like Oman that can concentrate its air defence.
Yes.. but not as difficult as defending in Europe or India... KSA is a vast expanse. ..but still a desert...

Again, supersonic cruise missile doesn't fly in low altitude inland attacking unless you get some alien techs. It is quite easier to intercept than subsonic cruise as the latter is actually flying through the valley and hard to track continuously.

All you said here is the missile working model in the sea, not land. I can drive a car at 150km/h on the express way, doesn't mean the same car can be driven at the same speed in the CBD.

Wrong, that is exactly where the subsonic cruise missile's strength: they can fly around 50-150 meters above the ground through the ENTIRE JOURNEY.

Wrong again, the RCS of cruise missiles are far smaller than all fighter planes except stealth plane. Generally, they are less than 0.5 m2.

Most of drugs that go into US now arrives by seaport on container vans (same as Philippines where most drugs arrive via container vans of Chinese drugs traders), or semi-submersible vessles or overland. Drug cartels only fly drugs via ultralights and drones just to hop the border. There's not much long distance plane transports of drugs mostly because of effective air surveilance including the use of Lockheed Martin's passive radar "Silent Sentry" by the DEA as early as 1998 (the same radar tech that German are claiming as revolutionary when they tracked 2 F-35s).

There are 150 planes registered with the FAA implicated in drug running. They buy them in South Florida and Delaware, do as many runs until they get caught and the same aircraft companies buy them back at auction and sell them back to the same drug cartels. That is on top of the drones, the Americans are not serious about protecting their border.

  • Sea skimming / Terrain Hugging


Anti-ship cruise missiles generally follow a sea skimming profile. This means that the missile flies just a few meters above the water surface. This flight profile makes the missile invisible to enemy radar until it is just round 30 km away from the ship due to the earth’s curvature. Flying low delays its detection by the enemy unless the enemy has an airborne radar. But flying low has its disadvantages as well. Fuel consumption is high when following a sea skimming profile. Range at sea skimming height is 30-40% of the range at high attitude flight.

Land attack missiles generally follow a terrain hugging profile. This means that they closely follow the ups and downs of the terrain and remain hidden from detection by radars due to their low altitude.

BrahMos has multiple flight profiles selectable according to mission, range and terrain (if land attack)

For a pure low-level / sea skimming profile, absolute range is much lower than advertised.

The max range figure requires the high altitude semi-ballistic profile you mention where the missile executes a terminal dive or moves to sea skimming mode (depending on target profile again) but different flight profile combinations can be computed for situations as required.

Land attack is a much simpler game than anti-ship duties. A land target doesn't move so INS / GPS guidance on a LACM can be pre-set and forgotten. For a moving ship you need a mature kill-chain with mid-course guidance and a data link upload capability.

If India wants a cutting edge Anti ship with landcattack capability cruise missile then the Norwegian Konsberg Naval Strike Missile right now is the best in the business. It should buy it for the IN so that you do not rely on a single platform Bhramos for attacks.


Another beauty of NSM is that it uses IR sensor for targetting so the target does not get alerted as compsred to radar based targetting sensor. It's also immune from electronic countermeasures like chaff or electronic jamming.

I don't see tomahawk diving down in this video. I do see the booster separating and splashing down.

Your eyes are getting deceived by perspective.
Just look at the flight profile of the Russian Tomahawk copy Kalibr, they're the same as with all subsonic anti ship or land attack cruise missiles.

It's Flight trajectory is unpredictable
With Midcourse update
Its's shorter engagement time envelope makes it impossible for any know air defense system to engage it
