Diversion of the water ways can cause an ecological imbalance in the region resulting in change in weather, reduction of intensity of rainfall turning fertile land into dry barren lands, extinction of numerous varieties of spices, a few to mention are the Tiger and Rhinosorous reserves in the region, which can result in a negative impact upon the nature and environment, it can result in from environmental shift to catastrophic disaster for mankind, so my friends from PRC what do you say do you still support the diversion of the river for a lesser cause?
if chinese people die for lacks of water all u said is minor.

so no need to make a big fuzz. PRC will surely exame the situations very carefully and thuroughly. we have rightes to use what we have and i think 2 principles should be followed. 1 affections should be reduced as little as possible. 2 water should not be wasted letting it flow to the sea without proper usages if theire is water shortage.

who ever has problems with that can try stopping this.....but how to do that is factually way beyond my understandings.

You Chinese are abusing your natural resources faster than any other country. Don't blame it on the Indians when your people will die from thirst because your rivers are drying up from over exploitation and over consumption. Indians too down the stream needs to survive you know.

The Chinese scholar is hot air and Chinese posters are even hotter air.Till date the CCP is unable to get rid of the headaches of three gorges dam and right now they are even thinking of removing the Three gorges dam if the Headache that ocurred this year are a repeated feature. Now the Chinese posters are saying the CCP will try to divert the Brahmaputra River and build a canal through the Tibetian plateau and mountaineous regions and add to that spark war with lower Riparian Countries like India not some pygmy South-east Asian country.

If everyone believes the Garbage the Chinese posters say("We are gods with the mandate of heaven") so obey us
i m not saying 3 gogers dam is problem free but i can tell u many benifit from this project and indeed many also suffer. a number of measures r being taken now to remedy the situations and also the scale of demages that might be caused by the 3g dam should not be exaggerated and benifits got downplayed. no 1 can ensure all the dams u build r 100% possitive and no any negative impact which should surely be heeded before and after the constructions....have a look at the indian sardar sarovar dam we simply can draw that conclusion...........

so PRC using the water is abusing our natural resources and letting u indians use them is not??? a good argument in fact.

no matter who survives the gov of PRC should 1st make sure chinese survive then others.

Chinese are not going to survive at the expense of others. Water theft is a valid premise for war and China will be bombed back to the stone age.

Chinese may have water shortages but that does not mean that they can build dams and steal our water...
Shortages of water will cause decreased agricultural produce, decreased industrial production thus directly affecting the industrial growth and livelihood of millions of indians and bangladeshis whose predominant occupation is agriculture.. We could even be looking at famine or huge increase in poverty level..
Just because chinese have misused and squandered their water resources and are now facing drought does not mean that other nations must be subjected to loss of water to fuel China's growth..
Water is a very sensitive issue in South asia.. One we wouldnt mind fighting a war for..

That is not your water, who cares how you respond.

You people are too obsessed with your nukes, everytime you feel unhappy you choose to pull out the nukes as if you are the only one who owns nuclear bombs.

Why are Indians so fond of talking about nuclear war? If you want a nuclear war that badly, bring it on, show us the real face of India.

There in not much rainfall in the upstream of the Yarlung Xangbao river .Most of the water is due to glacial melt .If the Chinese need to divert water they have to do something near the namcha barwa curve which exactly is not possible

If Brahmaputra is diverted then the biggest victim will not be India but China's client state Bangladesh.

So I don't think there is much chance that this will happen, nor should we lose much sleep over it when there are far more pressing issues.

But it will affect those of us living in east and northeast India, man. Technically, Brahmaputra has been striking disasters numerous times but a lot of agrarian production is there here because of the river. While Bangladesh might starve (for all we care), we too will be affected in a significant way. We need to speed up a UN-backed initiative to have a Indus Agreement like water treaty with China so that they have enough global pressure not to play dirty tricks with us.

This can be mediated by Russia as having US as mediator won't be a good sign.

Don't worry Chicoms you can even take all the water yet no one in India will say a word.
With the current govt even Sri Lanka can dream to take on us so China is a big shit cake for us to swallow.

I don't think you understand my point. I am aware that the Brahmaputra is the lifeline for Assam and much of NE India. But the effect of Bangladesh, which has far more people than NE India, will be far greater, and if China does this then it will permanently ruin their relationship with Bangladesh. Think about the potential domino effect. Once Bangladesh becomes a vocal anti-PRC country (along with being a Muslim country), it might quickly diminish China's reputation in the rest of the Islamic world (minus our western neighbors, of course, whose minds can't be changed even if PRC put a gun to their heads, oh wait they already do ;)).

Also, think about the precedent that such an action will create. Other countries might try to control river flow at the expense of others. What if India dammed the Indus, thus turning Pakistan into a desert? Will China be in any position to object, when having done the same to India?

The point I'm trying to make, is that diverting the Brahmaputra to give more water for some god-forsaken under-populated part of Tibet/western China is not worth the potential diplomatic ramifications that such an action might cause. If the CCP were serious about damming the river, they sure as hell would have done it by now.

Reduction in water share can always be accounted for. Indo-Pak Indus water treaty has held its end despite the bitterness of so many decades. We can have a similar treaty with China if need be. If they don't comply and we find water going down, we'll have to deal with them sternly then.

[h=1]Relief for India as China says no Brahmaputra diversion[/h]
NEW DELHI: In a rare admission which will be welcomed in India, China has stated that it will not divert the Brahmaputra river.

Jiao Yong, vice minister at China's ministry of water resources, told a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday that although there is a demand among Chinese to make greater use of the Yarlung Tsangpo (Tibetan name for the Brahmaputra), "considering the technical difficulties, the actual need of diversion and the possible impact on the environment and state-to-state relations, the Chinese government has no plan to conduct any diversification project in this river".

This is the first time that China has acknowledged that anything that spoils relations with India over the Brahmaputra does not serve any interests.

there are more news erupting about the drop of Brahmaputra river in Arunachal, the state government suspects China 's role behind it.

The political advisor to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, Tako Dabi, apprehends that China could have diverted water of the river, which originates from Tibet.

The villagers found the river to have almost dried up in Pasighat town in East Siang district. Dabi, who is also the spokesperson of the state government, said China could have also put some artificial blockade on the river.

The state government has urged the Centre to conduct a study to ascertain the ground reality. On June 9, 2000, the water level of the river rose suddenly by 30 metre and inundated almost the entire township.

meanwhile china and India both playing down the issue and stating the levels are normal, but very recently the water flow have increased, officials state that there is rain in the catchment area
