Blast in Karachi's DHA leaves eight dead

KARACHI: Eight people including six police officers were killed and several more wounded Monday in a car bomb attack targeting a senior policeman in Pakistan's financial capital Karachi, officials said.

Senior Superintendent Aslam Khan, who was unhurt but whose home was destroyed, told AFP he had been threatened by the Pakistani Taliban and that he was the target of the attack.

"It was a car bomb attack on my house," he said. "I was receiving threats from Tehreek-e-Taliban. Taliban are involved in this attack." Khan heads the counter-terrorism unit of the Police Crime Investigation Department in Karachi, investigating Islamist militant cells in the city.

Several neighbouring houses were also wrecked in the attack, private Pakistan TV channels showed, with four cars being badly damaged and a two-metre deep crater left in front of Khan's home.

"Eight people including six policemen have been killed and several others were wounded. It was a car bomb attack," Shoukat Hussain, another senior police officer told AFP. "A child and a woman were also killed."

"We are investigating whether a suicide bomber was riding the car or someone parked it outside the house," Hussain added.

Simi Jamal, a senior doctor at Karachi's main Jinnah hospital, told AFP:

"We have received three dead bodies."

Karachi, Pakistan's economic hub, is currently undergoing its worst ethnic- and politically-linked unrest in 16 years, with more than 100 people killed in one week alone last month.

The gang wars have been linked to ethnic tensions between the Mohajirs, the Urdu-speaking majority represented by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), and Pashtun migrants affiliated to the rival Awami National Party (ANP).

The nationally ruling Pakistan People's Party, which was elected in 2008 after nine years of military rule, insists that civilian authorities are capable of controlling the bloodshed, despite calls for military intervention.

This for avenging all the souls who perished in the delhi high court blasts
I'm continuously perplexed at what has a person go through in life to ever stoop low enough to make such a statement. Seriously man I can't believe you just said that.

What is the Pakistani government doing? Ethnic violence in the financial capital of a country? Emergency should be called in Karachi to clean all this mess.

Did you ponder about that when the people from Land of Pure were smug with glee about 10 kids holding a city of 14 million hostage for 2 days after killing about 166 of them ?

"fascinating to see pakis stewing in their own juice" (assuming "there" was meant to be their). Nitesh you don't feel the slightest bit off put by saying this to the aggrieved party?

In Punjabi we often say "Indian aur Pakistanio da Kuttay billian da vairr ay". Seeing such statements this seems justified. Ab yeh na poochna, Kutta kaun, billi kaun?

It is shameful to celebrate death of common people. There are some people who celebrate death of Indians by terrorists. Now if you people start celebrating death of common Pakistani by the Talibans you are no different from them. Is it necessary to bite the dog?

I think at max people were critical of the Special forces taking so long to clear them as were a lot of other Indians too (more vocally). Some people might have been smug, but they are sick people and not tolerated in polite company.

No I have no feeling for the ones who support terrorism, they nurtured it in the name of religion. Now the same monster is killing them.

There is a fundamental difference here. Here Greater green is killing less green. People laugh here at the irony here.

[hl]Warning to everyone. We are not a forum who celebrate the death of people. If people celebrate such events on other forums doesn't mean we allow it here. Don't prove yourselves as equal to other low lives. If any transgresses this line, a ban is lined up for you.[/hl]

Who? the government? or the people?

What has an ordinary Pakistani ever done to you? In Pakistan only the elites and the extremist are having a good time. The rest of the people could careless about us and our affairs. An average Pakistani is no different from an average Indian.

Nope. Many pakistani's were proud of the fact that 10 Pakistanis could enter the India and keep the city hostage for 2 days. But ever since the TTP attack on Pakistan naval base, such comments have stopped :p
