During his customary call on the Pakistan President, Krishna started out with a special emphasis on his excellent rapport with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar and how that has helped make progress within the joint commission. But as he said this, Zardari interrupted, pointing to a thread around Krishna's wrist and asked whether this was a rakhi . Barely had he recovered from this diversion, Krishna was thrown off-balance by the next query, with Zardari wanting to know whether it was Hina Rabbani Khar who had tied it around his wrist. While Zardari may have been poking fun at India's octagenarian Foreign Minister, Krishna was not amused and said he was not wearing a rakhi , and that the festival was over about a month ago. He then went on to explain the significance of the festival while bewildered officials on both sides wondered how to rescue the conversation.
