BENGALURU: A 41-year-old Bengaluru woman was stabbed to death in Sydney, Australia even as she was talking to her husband here on phone on Saturday night.

"Please don't hurt me. Take whatever you want. But please spare me," Prabha Arun Kumar, IT consultant with Mindtree, was heard telling her attacker over phone. Arun Kumar helplessly listened as his wife pleaded with her killer. Seconds earlier, Prabha told Arun that there was a 'huge person around her'. "Then he couldn't talk to her but could only hear her screams: 'please don't hurt me, take whatever you want, please don't hurt me'. She then told my uncle in Kannada that she has been stabbed and the call got disconnected," Prabha's nephew told the TOI.

The woman was walking through Parramatta Park, hardly 300 meters away from her Westmead home, when the killer accosted her.

"Police are investigating after a woman was fatally injured in Westmead overnight. About 9.30pm (Saturday 7 March 2015), emergency services were called to a public walkway near Amos Street, following reports that a woman had been attacked. Police from Parramatta Local Area Command located a woman — believed to be aged in her early 40s - suffering a serious wound. She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where she later died," read an official statement from New South Wales police department.

The statement also added that State Crime Command's Homicide Squad is assisting Parramatta detectives.

Prabha had gone to Sydney on project with Mindtree three years ago and was due to return to home on April this year. Around 9.30pm Sydney time (4pm IST), Prabha called her husband, as usual, said nephew Thrijesh Jayachandra.
Prabha, a BE (Computer Science) graduate from Sullia, Dakshina Kannad a district, worked as a senior technical analyst, sources said. She married G Arun Kumar, who owns a software firm in the city, 11 years ago.

The couple's nine-year-old daughter Meghana studies in class V in a Bengaluru school. The family resided at Basaveshwara Nagar, west Bengaluru.

Arun Kumar left for Sydney around 12.40am on Saturday night.

"It is extremely unfortunate and shocking. Our prayers are with the family of the deceased. We are working with the officials of both the countries to help the family to bring the body back to India. We are providing all the necessary support to authorities investigating the case," Mindtree said in Bengaluru.

But the point is Aus is supposed to be a lot safer right as compared to "barbaric" India?

And it is rather shameful of you to blame the deceased victim and accuse her of being a miser and not buying a car.

Have some shame before mouthing off just because Aus or West needs to be defended at all costs.

So let's review :

Women out in bad areas, late at night in Aus/West -
Justification : Miser and foolish because they were out in such areas and didn't have a car. So the attacks are expected to happen.

Women out in bad areas late at night in India -
Justification : Indian sick society, Indian men are rapists, India is sick society

Safety of women is the focus. This case or the other one.
everything is not covered by govt ,you as individual also responsible for your safety.

as i told u west specially in UK and oz walking in parks and subways at night can be dangerous and this is wat has happened

despite educated she ignores warning from her room mates and friends not to use parks at night,

OZ govt cant provide 1 constable with every woman:wave::wave::wave:

there are no double standard , focus on this case . you will not get confused
The case is... if this had happened in India..it would be colored with abuse on women and probably an attempt of rape which lead to murder. The media will be all over it even accuse govt.

But
since this happened in west... FOCUS is on the 'saftey' issue of women at night "despite" her friends telling her meaning she took un necessary risk.

What @thethinker was trying to say is this double standard undertaken by the media that showed the attitude of media.

Amazing to see how logical explanations come up all of a sudden with no generalizations about Aus or Western men when crimes happen there against women.

Blaming the victim especially dead ones is rather perverse. That too a fellow Indian.

Does anyone else find @Blackwater's stance obnoxious and nauseating over the last few days?

If an Aussie had been killed in India, the entire world media would have outraged about it for weeks. Here, @Blackwater is blaming the victim's "miserliness".

But when it comes to rapes in India, he won't blame the victim - he will go with the Goras, blaming "Indian culture" for the rapes.

Carry on @Blackwater, I hope you are profiled and discriminated against for being a "rapist" soon. You deserve it.
