need to improve coastal guard provision using quick boats and state governments should be given power to confront rogue elements like ajmal kasab and srilankan government. Maybe this could be possible by having autonomous state goverment yielding state governments more power.

State Governments already have powers. But they can't do job of Coast Guard or Navy.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage said yesterday though the Sri Lankan and Indian Navies maintain a vibrant relationship, the Indian Navy and Coastguard units are often helpless when it comes to poaching by Indian fishermen.

"We have an excellent working relationship and the bulk of the training comes from the Indian Navy. But I would say that the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard are helpless. They advise them not to cross but they cross." he said.

He said from Pambaran to Tuticorin there was a large coastal belt which was difficult even for the Indian Navy to supervise.

"They are using the bottom-trawling method which is destructive to marine resources. Forty per cent of what they collect is useless, so they throw it away," he said.

"They submerge a net with a scraper and drag it along, so the speed of the boat allows it to take not only fish or prawns but it also damages corals and other natural reefs," he noted.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said a large number of Indian fishermen entered Lankan waters to catch shrimp in order to protect the multi-billion dollar shrimp industry in Tamil Nadu.

"Tamil Nadu is the largest exporter of shrimp to the world. Since they have exploited their fish resources it has become a problem for them, so they enter our waters which are rich in prawns. They even export shrimp to the European Union," he said.

I have maintained for long that the Sri Lanka needs to be put in its place. This has gone on for decades now. And earlier they used to kill our fishermen with impunity which even Pakistan doesn't do.

Ya'll Nibbiars @ezsasa Nibba literally has probabaly low knowledge about this matters. The are also many non significant tamilans who works there many from Kerala, Andhra, karnataka and even other parts of the country work there is definitely not a regional issues but a national issues.

Ya'll Nibbiars on that specific timeline seen many Sri Lankan contradicting its and hardly any Indian arguing and even from TN. Seeing thks can knew how much SL take this matters seriously and how much we on the national levels.

Is it justified....

in my view this conflict resolution should be done in a phased manner.

1) our fisherman who are getting into conflict areas should be identified.
2) they should be encouraged to form co-operative of sorts
3) those co-operatives should be given low interest loans to buy bigger vessels which can go deeper into the sea to catch bigger quantity and quality

Once deesclation happens over a period of time, increase diplomatic pressure on SL, because they will be in the wrong continuously.
