Earlier in the evening, militants lobbed a grenade towards a paramilitary CRPF camp at Safakadal area of Srinagar, the summer capital of the State.

"Militants hurled the grenade on CRPF's 161 Battalion at Braripora, Safakdal. The device missed the target and exploded outside the sentry post," said the police.

Four vehicles, including a school bus, were damaged due to the impact of the blast.

Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, witnessed second such attack since February 10 when militants stormed an Army installation in the city outskirts, which left 11 people, including four attackers, dead.

But if militants attack security forces during this period , then we may have to think seriously again about ceasefire

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Friday said that the Army was ready to extended unilateral ceasefire in Jammu & Kashmir “if things move smoothly.” The Army chief arrived in Srinagar on Thursday and was speaking to the media at the Army Goodwill School in Pahalgam, 100 km away from capital Srinagar.

It (halting operations) has brought peace in Kashmir and if things move smoothly we can extend it. But if militants attack the security forces during this period of time, then we may have to think seriously again about ceasefire,” Gen. Rawat was quoted as saying by a Srinagar-based news agency GNS .

The Army took a unilateral decision to halt operations on May 16 and stopped cordon and search operations, especially in the militancy hub of south Kashmir.
