IAI have already said they’ve conducted work to integrate Derby ER on LCA.

Astra will come on LCA I’m sure but currently it’s range is no match for the ER (>100km), this is the kind of capability that will change the entire paradigm of air warfare in S.Asia.
Yea. Derby ER is the current option for LCA and may be even Mki if we can integrate it.

ER matches or exceeds the range of 120Cs which neither the R77 or the Astra can.

I wonder whats the AAM that Russian Su35s carry and whats the range.

AWACS kill missiles are usually in range of 300 - 400 km. It's more than enough to kill paki AWACS from within Indian territory. AWACS is slow moving target and it cannot maneuver like fighter jet to escape.

Even if pakis land their plane after seeing missile homing towards it still it will be another physiological factor next time AWACS flies.

It will be rerun of atlantique episode. Just deny them privilege of flying AWACS without risks.
So far, all the so called "AWACS killer" are still in the testing stage. There are too unknowns about them except the range. It is too early to tell. For example, middle course guiding is always a problem for such long range missile.

That means pl15 is untested but Pakis bought it maybe in their dreams.

The sweet spot for current generation BVR missile (before Meteor) effectiveness is around the 60 kms area. Beyond that, the Ph/Pk drops drastically and any hit is unlikely to be anything but a fluke, especially against a competent opponent.

BVRAAMs are rarely if ever fired at their maximum ranges. Usually, either ROE prevents this, or the pilot's decision to wait till targets are closer in order to ensure maximum probability of kill.

AEW planes & tankers ofcourse cannot maneuver as well as fighters can and will be susceptible to a higher chance of hit/kill.

In the Indian context, the best way of ensuring an Anti-AEW capability is to employ high-speed SAM rounds such as those we're getting in the S400 package. As far as air-to-air option goes, the Meteor affords the best chances of taking out lumbering targets at extremely long ranges. Do note that MBDA and the countries involved remain highly guarded regarding the effective range of the Meteor missile. The quoted "100+km" figure is nothing but the very bottom end of the max range.

A range of easily twice that of the C-7 AMRAAM is likely.

The lack of strategic depth on the pakistani side combined with S400/Meteor usage ensures it will be extremely problematic for the enemy to successfully operate AEW aircraft beyond the very opening stage of an all-out conflict.

A Second Astra BVR-AAM variant to get Go-Head Soon

"that development of second Astra BVR-AAM variant too might be cleared soon and will incorporate an indigenous Imaging infrared (IR) seeker with dual waveband imaging infrared seeker which with its RF Seeker variant can dodge any counter-measures deployed by target aircraft"

They released a graph in the promotional video which had it at twice the range of Novator and three times the range of AIM-120D.

I have been saying this for many years now. It feels so good to see my imagination coming to reality.

MICA IR getting replicated in Astra Family. Good sensible decision.
