Army chief on 3-day visit to Bhutan from tomorrow

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh will be on a three-day visit to Bhutan from tomorrow where he will hold discussions with the top leadership there to further strengthen military ties between the neighbours. During the visit, the Army Chief will also visit the Indian Military Training Team there and review the work being done by the Indian formation there, Army officials said. Gen Singh will also call on King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, Prime Minister Jigme Thinley and top Royal Bhutan Army officials, they said. He will also visit important training establishments and other places of interest. This will be Gen Singh\'s second visit abroad after Nepal. As part of efforts to strengthen military relations with India\'s neighbours, he has plans of visiting these countries first. India and Bhutan share strong military ties. In 2005, the Bhutanese King had attended a course at the prestigious National Defence College here. A large number of its officers and personnel are trained at Indian military establishments here. As the erstwhile GOC in C Eastern Command, Bhutan was under his watch.

He is sure to be able to hit it off with all those who are important in Bhutan for old time's sake.
