NEW DELHI: The Indian establishment is worried about a startling increase in the number of stand-offs between Indian and Chinese border patrols and more aggressive posturing by Chinese soldiers along the border.

The political leadership has been briefed about this qualitative change in the assertiveness of Chinese troops along the border, sources said.

The latest stand-off between the two sides along the disputed Line of Actual Control was about three weeks ago, when Chinese soldiers brought a bulldozer into a disputed area in the Ladakh region to construct a road. Even after the Indian side objected to it and asked the Chinese to take it back, the PLA unduly delayed the withdrawal of the machine and took it away only about four days later. The delay of the Chinese was unusual, said a senior official, but it fell into the trend they have noticed this summer of greater assertiveness by People's Liberation Army soldiers.

In fact, the 2010 summer has already recorded an almost 100% increase in the number of stand-offs between the patrols of the two sides. Sources said these peaceful stand-offs were reported from Depsang, Demchok and Pangong Tso areas of Ladakh region in recent weeks.

Sources said they had recorded at least six stand-offs between the two sides this summer. With at least two more months for winter to set in, putting an end to such long range patrols, 2010 may wind up with a record high in the number of such encounters in recent memory. Compared to it, the disputed areas of Ladakh only recorded about three stand-offs a year between the two sides every summer in recent years.

Sources said these stand-offs had been between patrols of the Army and the ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) with PLA soldiers. The increasing number of stand-offs apart, the changing posture of the PLA during the stand-offs is equally worrying.

Sources said the security establishment is also reporting a significant step up in the assertiveness of Chinese military patrols whenever they encounter Indian patrols in the disputed areas of Ladakh region. For one, the Chinese soldiers are no more slinging their rifles on their shoulders but are holding it in their hands in a more readiness posture.

In the past, whenever the patrols came face to face, the two sides withdrew simultaneously, which is the accepted norm. It is no more the case, according to sources who say they are worried about the developments. Now, the Chinese military personnel wait for the Indian patrol to withdraw fully from the area, he said. The traditionally accepted guidelines for such instances are a simultaneous withdrawal by both sides.

There are no significant reports of such stand-offs coming in from the northeastern border, sources said.

We keep hearing these reports, but there is absolutely no report on what India is doing. Why can't India deploy more troops there already? We need to increase the concentration of our troops and start building defensive fortifications to give the Chinese the message that they are playing with fire. I am sure China is not having a pleasant ball game in international geopolitics these days with disputes with Japan, USA and Taiwan heating up.

I don't give a damn to Taiwan & Tibet affairs..

First thing is to prepare ourselves than we may consider other..

What is important is to improve the infrastructure which is long pending and improve weapons for infantry, And yes we don't have a affective arty..!! :emot154:

Nor we are fully equipped nor we have better supplies for the war to come on our home land and we are concern abt others..

US and Russia wont be their when PLA bullets will be hitting us..

China is causing problems with America, Taiwan, Japan, and India while it's helping Pakistan and other countries that might cause problems for India. India needs to procure things faster (like Scorpene, second line of subs ,MMRCA) or we are going to be really in trouble if China feels like flexing it's muscles.

India needs to stop dreaming, wake up and get it's defence priorities in order and stop delaying things we needed 5 or 10 years ago. Our pilots, soldiers, and navy personnel deserve much better treatment then they are getting.

There is nothing much the INDIAN government can do. They know how to down play the claims of the Chinese Army. Especially Mr.Chidambaram, the Home Minister, he is an expert in downplaying the Chinese incursions and the improper equipment which his government is providing the INDIAN ARMY. The same thing was done our, the then Prime Minister of INDIA Mr.Nehru at the time of 1962 war. He said hindi-chini bhai-bhai and the Chinese took advantage of that and attacked INDIA. During the 1962 war when the Chinese were deep into the INDIAN territory Mr.Nehru said don't worry (to the people of INDIA) the Chinese are at our border and the INDIAN ARMY is fighting and we will win the war. This is how they rule our country.

The most darring Prime Minister's in the INDIAN history are Ms.Indra gandhi and Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpee. Thumbs-up for them. Great leaders who took INDIA to the next level and proved that INDIA is a rising power to the whole WORLD.:emot154:

China has already got a lot of bad press now a days . Japan is also standing up to its bullying and Entire ASEAN is fed up with them. This is time for India to rise and show other countries that we are with them. with entire East Asia barring 2 countries are either neutral or against them we need not be afraid of them. If they infiltrate into our territory we have every right to shoot them. Any flare up on the border will definitely bring entire world attention to the issue. Moreover a trade/currency war is almost about to take place so China has enough worries ahead. We should also participate actively with ASEAN . Its time when India can emerge as leader for ASEAN countries.

But all this is possible only when our GOI proves that they have balls.
