its better to equip afghans with MANPADs. they are pro in it. also these things are more lethal as compared to flying stuff in this world where im damn sure that afghanistan cant afford the atf for these high performance war machines.
afghanistan also lacks good infra for supporting these machines. most of the time they will be parked in bays for repairs and awaiting clearance. make their ground capability strong. afghanistan is still far far away from having offensive air capabilities.
MANPADS ? What purpose will they serve in the fight against the Taliban ?? We are talking about helping them with some form of hardware that would help in their war efforts again the insurgency.

Fighters jets are useless since using them would require extensive training and after sales support. They still have Migs belonging to the 80's era rusting in their hangars. Even if we provide our Migs, famous as they are for all the unwanted reasons, it will be a headache to keep them running for the Afghans. When such an established air force like ours had so much problems in our MIG-21s regarding maintenance and spares, then running them for their AF will be a nightmare with the rag-tag infrastructure that they have.

Anyway, I still feel that they would prefer the LCH more since its new, and also their biggest preference will be Russian choppers and aircraft.

manpads are very useful. shoulder mounted stuff for attacking flying machines and ground target without getting noticed. even a small company of ANA can cause great damage to hundreds of talibs stuffed in training camps where as a helo is prone to ground fire. one ANA down is lil worry but one helo down is big big loss.

What flying machines do the Talibs have ?? We are talking about the immediate security concerns, and the main source of worry is rise of Taliban again. External forces like Pakistan are secondary and such concerns will of course be looked into also. But, primarily the main source of concern is Taliban gaining territory again in eastern and southern Afghanistan.

For, attacking ground targets, its much better to use RPG, ATM and heavy artillery. Nobody uses MANPADS to attack ground targets in theory, they are short range SAMs after all, for basic air defense.

ah may be i was wrong to include all the shoulder mounted missiles as manpads. but taliban dont have an airforce and they can easily buy MANPADs from black market or pakistan. this will be disasterous for afghanistan and countries militarily supporting the afghan army and govt.
taliban destroyed soviets with these shoulder mounted weaponry. though manpads are not so efficient and effective but they can create wreck haoc if a platoon with such arms is deployed on the battlezone.
