Actor Nirmal Pandey 48, who first shot to fame through Shekhar Kapur's much acclaimed Bandit Queen (1996), as Vikram Mallah, passed away this afternoon follwing a cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife Archana and two kids. A graduate from the National School of Drama, the actor, known for films like Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, One 2 ka 4 and Shikari established a niche playing negative characters on the big screen as well as on television. His last release was the Telugu film Kedi.

Pandey played the role of a transvestite in Amol Palekar's Daayara and had just finished shooting for the film Lahore.

Colleagues who worked with him, remembers him as a nice human being and a great actor. “A terrific actor and human being who had yet to achieve his full potential," wrote Shekahr Kapur on his Twitter account on Thursday.

Irrfan , a senior of Pandey's at NSD said that he was 'deeply saddened' by Pandey's sudden death. "I remember him as a handsome guy.

He was not just a good actor but also an excellent singer. I had not been in touch with him for some time, but the news is saddening," said Irrfan.

Sudhir Mishra, who directed him in Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin, was shocked when he heard the news. "I am completely taken aback. I got to know only a few minutes ago," he said.

Actor Jackie Shroff who worked with him in One Two Ka Four, says, "I am sad to hear the news. He was a great guy to work with. Great energy on the set. If his family needs any help from me, I am always there for them."

Arbaaz Khan who had acted with him in Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and Auzaar, said, "It is sad that Nirmal passed away at such a young age.

My condolences for him and his family. He was a terrific actor and it was great working with him.
Rest in Peace , Nirmal , we will miss your presence in the screen.
