If Japan does this, I will be jumping for joy.

There is no easier way for Japan to strain the US-Japan treaty than by testing a nuclear weapon on disputed islands. I would then expect China to nudge South Korea to test a nuclear weapon at Dokdo (not hard at all given what the likely response among the Korean public will be), and then permanently unravel the US security alliance in the Western Pacific. That would a master-class victory for Chinese diplomacy.

Really? South Korea is hedging between China and the U.S. a heck of a lot more than you think, and between China and Japan, South Koreans overwhelmingly favor China. If Japan nuke-tested the Diaoyu Islands, you can expect South Koreans to

a) press for their own nukes
and
b) seek a demonstration of sovereignty on their own disputed islands with Japan

What better way to do that than to nuke Dokdo?

Where can we buy japanese balls for our leaders...

By Gerard Baker, George Nishiyama WSJ Oct.26,2013

TOKYO—Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he envisions a resurgent Japan taking a more assertive leadership role in Asia to counter China's power, seeking to place Tokyo at the helm of countries in the region nervous about Beijing's military buildup amid fears of an American pullback.
Mr. Abe made clear that one important way that Japan would "contribute" would be countering China in Asia. "There are concerns that China is attempting to change the status quo by force, rather than by rule of law. But if China opts to take that path, then it won't be able to emerge peacefully," Mr. Abe said. "So it shouldn't take that path, and many nations expect Japan to strongly express that view. And they hope that as a result, China will take responsible action in the international community."
China's Foreign Ministry didn't immediately respond to requests to comment on Mr. Abe's assertions. In the past, the Chinese government has said that Mr. Abe's government was in danger of leading Japan toward a revival of right-wing militarism.
Mr. Abe's comments come amid a period of heightened tensions between the two Asian giants, as high-level diplomatic contact has virtually dried up amid a territorial dispute in the East China Sea. While the conflict preceded Mr. Abe becoming prime minister in December 2012, Beijing has accused him of aggravating ties with assertive rhetoric defending Japan's claims and ramping up Coast Guard defense of the chain of islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

. Because Japan tested on islands that China claims...Korea would have to teach Japan a lesson by testing on Islands that are disputed between them and japan, and this is despite the fact that they are both controlled by the U.S. How do you claim that SK is hedging between China and the U.S?

They might want nukes aswell, but they could do it without angering another potential ally against NK.
also why would SK want to be allies with a state that actively supports their sworn enemy who frequently tries crazy things to disrupt SK, and have also sworn to destroy them. Further more, the above mentioned state also claims all of Korea to be chinese territory...lol wake up.

With there pacifist constitution they can't counter sh8t.
First japan should ditch there pacifist constitution and then amreeka.
After that they are well prepared to even invade chinese like they did in ww2.

Japan didn't developed it's armed forces only because US secured the islands post WW2, now if US finds it costly to maintain it's strength in east Asia, Japan would be forced to increase it's own armed forces.

Lol wake up.

If you think NK is SKs sworn enemy, then you have not been paying attention.
Blood is thicker than water.

Koreans before outsiders and Chinese before the Japs.

SK and China has a far more healthy relations with each other than with Japan.
China called SK when NK tried their bomb, they never bothered to call Tokyo.

Yeah this year the relationship has been rather good...
In February, North Korea conducted an underground nuclear weapons test and confirmed with China, its only supporter in the region, that it would conduct others within the year.[24]

On March 8, 2013, the North Korean government announced that it was withdrawing from all non-aggression pacts with South Korea in response to UN Resolution 2094

[28] On March 11, 2013, the United States and South Korea began military drills amid high tensions and Pyongyang strongly condemned the exercises.[29]

On March 20, 2013, there was a cyber-attack against South Korea which added to tensions. It was later confirmed by the South Korean government that North Korea was behind the attack.[30]

On April 3, U.S. step-by-step plan "playbook" concerning high-visibility display of military power aimed at deterring North Korean provocations were released to the public.[31]

On April 4, North Korea moved what is believed to be an intermediate-range missile to its east coast, possibly in preparation for a drill or test-firing. Many nations, specifically Japan, South Korea, and the United States, viewed this move as a continuation of North Korea's attempts to provoke confrontation throughout the beginning of 2013.[32]

On April 9, North Korea issued its latest dispatch of ominous rhetoric on Tuesday, telling foreigners in South Korea they should take steps to secure shelter or evacuation to protect themselves in the event of a conflict on the Korean Peninsula. The unnerving message, announced by state-run media, followed a warning from the North the previous week to diplomats in its capital city, Pyongyang, that if war were to break out, it would not be able to guarantee their safety. In the statement, the North's Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee reiterated accusations that Washington and Seoul were seeking to provoke a war with Pyongyang. "Once a war is ignited on the peninsula, it will be an all-out war," the committee said, adding that North Korea doesn't want foreigners in South Korea to "fall victim" to a conflict.[33]

If Japan drops a bomb at senkaku tomorrow, then your wet dreams might come true. But the more realistic situation would be if China gets too belligerent in the future, Uncle sam would need a pacific ally to step up and yeah Japan would be a good choice. When that time time comes,
Uncle same gives his blessing to Japan to develop nukes and chaining down SoKor not to react. Then a pacific alliance springs up... and so on and so forth and next you can jump from the top of Shanghai Financial tower in humiliation before the tower actually falls down as a result of heavy bombardment of Shanghai.

Yes, during the peak time of cold war, when under the threat of more than 10,000 soviet nuclear weapons, Uncle didn't allow Japan to go for a nuke, now USA would need a nuclear Japan in handling Chinese?

If Shanghai was bombed by a japanese nuclear warhead, what do you think would happen to Japan? Asking japan to fight a nuclear war with a country 30 size bigger than it, why do you hate japan so much?

Don't really know what you are talking about but the cold war is over. It will be a totally different story.

Yes, cold war is over. Why would US risk a nuclear war for Japanese regarding a small island which is not even big enough for 1000 soldiers.

Well, if every nation is just trying to fight against Chinese with mouth like India, there is really nothing to worry about.

I don't think the US would because I don't think that China would go to war either.

Japan seems to be resolute enough to defend their territory from usurpers.

None is keen on war, but if war is thrust on them, then what can they do?

It is true that India wants peace through talks.

Is that really a bad thing?

Not too far in the future what will happen, who knows?

There is no need for US to risk a nuclear war as that would need China with balls to start a nuclear war.

Of course not, Chinese is squeeze into that area. Why going to a war if its tactics is working?

Yes, before 2012, they are the only one patrolling around that island, now they got company every day.

We all know how much Indians love peace: cheer up every time there is a possibility that another country maybe willing to have a conflict with China.
