Gunmen have ambushed army and police patrols in the Pakistani city of Quetta, killing eight security forces, officials said Wednesday.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle attacked an army vehicle in a market on Wednesday, killing the four soldiers and wounding a civilian, paramilitary spokesman Khan Wasey said. The four police were shot and killed by militants late Tuesday, police spokesman Shahzada Farhat said. No one has claimed either attack.


Quetta is the capital of Baluchistan province, home to a low-level ethnic separatist insurgency as well as Islamic extremist groups. Several top leaders of the Afghan Taliban are believed to reside in Quetta

The funeral prayers of slain paramilitary soldiers have been offered in Quetta. CM Balochistan, members of the provincial cabinet, IG FC, IG Police and other high-ups attended the last rites of martyred security men.

Police in Pakistan say at least three people have been killed and 32 wounded by a bomb that exploded in the volatile southwestern city of Quetta.

Police spokesman Shahzada Farhat said the bomb was rigged to a bicycle that was parked in a shopping area on a road to the city's airport on June 24.

Several shops were also damaged by the explosion.

Police officer Chaudhry Manzoor said there did not appear to be a target. He said the blast apparently was aimed at triggering "panic and terror."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

But Quetta is close to the Spin Boldak crossing into southern Afghanistan's Kandahar Province and has long been a stronghold for the Afghan Taliban.

QUETTA (Dunya News/AFP) – At least three suspects of banned outfit killed in a joint operation of Frontier Corps (FC) and security agencies at Sariab Road in Quetta, reported on Thursday.

According to FC spokesman, the security forces conducted a raid on Sariab Road and killed as many as three militants in an exchange of firing.

Sources told that the terrorists belonging to outlawed organization were involved in the target killing of policemen and FC personnel.

On the other hand, funeral prayers of four FC officers who were martyred in a shooting incident by gunmen bikersat Double Road have been offered.

"Four paramilitary soldiers were martyred and two other soldiers and a civilian were wounded in the firing by unknown gunmen on motorcycle," Frontier Corps spokesman Khan Wasay told AFP.

On Tuesday four policemen were killed in two separate attacks in Quetta.

Mineral-rich Balochistan of which Quetta is the capital has been plagued for decades by separatist insurgency and sectarian killings.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quetta said that target killers would never be forgiven as he directed to speed up the action against them.
