Jayalalitha should take out a march to Tuticorin Coast Guard station demanding protection for the fishermen.

Not only Jayalalitha, even if the whole TN take out a march to Tuticorin CG station, you can see no reaction from CG or central govt. Attacks on poor fishermen may increase, actually !

There was such a big row about Kudankulam... a lot of political leaders taking part in sit ins and demonstrations. Why don't they see this continuing problem of Indian fishermen being attacked? Is it because fishermen are poor and can't pay them, while the Kudankulam action had foreign funds flowing in?

India has become the laughing stock of the world. When a puny island with 20 million people is holding hostage a nation of 1.2 billion, you know something is wrong.

Hope whatever the SL is doing does not render the fragile democracy over there invalid.

Its okay SL, you can use your navy to hunt down Indian fishermen, but our Indian Navy is more ethical and responsible and will be there to help you in case of natural disasters like Tsunami..etc etc.
There is an irony..but its understood.

It seems unprofessional for a navy to be attacking fishermen? The commanding
officer should be questioned.

According to a 1976 agreement, it seems Indian fishermen are not allowed to fish near kachatheevu. But there seems to be some confusion on the very matter of ceding of kachetheevu from India to Lanka in 1974.
They are allowed to fish.

But the fishing was temporarily suspended in the years from late 80s to mid 2000 in a bid to prevent smuggling to LTTE. Other than that Katchatheevu was transferred to Lanka on three conditions

1) Tamil fishermen would be allowed to fish, in what was their traditional fishing grounds.
2) they would be allowed to use the island to dry their nets and mend it.
3)they would be allowed for pilgrimage.

And this is not considering the fact the transfer itself is illegal as our constitution makes it abundantly clear that no part of sovereign territory of India can be transferred to other countries.

Read this http://ilantamilar.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Final-book.pdf for indepth analysis of the issue.

If you can transfer Katchatheevu to Lanka why not formally transfer Aksai Chin to China and end the dispute with China ? Why double standards ?
