The transition to 5G from 4G could happen much faster compared to the switch from 3G to 4G services.

Indian government has NOT allocated airwaves for 5G once 5G airwaves(spectrum) is allocated then the race will begin between Jio, Airtel, and Vodaphone-idea.

The government recently said it plans to allocate airwaves to offer 5G services – which can support download speeds 50 to 60 times faster than 4G – by end of 2019.

If sources are to be believed then JIO can have a fully operational 5G network within 6 months of airwaves allocation. so India should get 5G by 2020.

5G tech is in its infancy. Just watch YouTube videos of tech vloggers trying out 5G - the range and speed is very finnicky - it seems 5G requires antenna in every street.

I think telcos in India should concentrate on importing 4G LTE speed

Honestly, the coverage of 4G and even 3G is very poor outside of urban areas even in the Western World.

True benefit is when you are on the highways or travelling by train in jungles or remote areas and you have a decent 4G. Don’t need 5G decent 4G is enough for current needs.

As long as you can get a signal the speed is good. The problem is getting a signal. It uses the same high frequencies as WiMAX which ended up losing out to LTE as the standard for that very reason. If they can't get 5G at low frequencies it will end only serving large cities with high population concentrations.

Airtel and Vodafone don't have money for competing for 5G . Jio is pushing everyone out of the market . Soon airtel and Vodafone may have to close down and jio will be the only player in the market.

How jio has done this? By giving its subscribers better deal than others . But once it becomes the only player with no one else left for subscribers to turn to when it decides to increase the rates , it will turn the rates up hugely and become quite costly.

5G model is for urban areas and countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and other developed nations.

5G at low frequencies is not feasible. Reason: High Speed and millions of users. To provide speeds in gigabits, and that too to millions of users within few kilometers of area without congestion, higher frequency is a must.

Higher frequencies can't penetrate walls, which means a lot of transmitted will need to be installed to get proper coverage. We barely have 4G and already 5G is almost here. Which will make companies think twice before investing.

I get 4-16 Mbps on Jio and 6-40 Mbps on Airtel 4G. Higher speeds usually at nights only.

But Jio is a proxy for PRC telcos like Huawei which in turn is proxy for PLA.GOI should ban PRC telcos out of national security concerns.

Sorry to disappoint, but things don't work like that anymore. Jio isn't proxy of anyone but reliance itself, rather other PRC telecoms like Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, OnePlus etc and non-PRC telecoms like Samsung and Apple are in an alliance with Jio to use each other's framework and cater to the needs of Indian customers, that's all.

As for 5G, what I feel is that sooner or later giants like Jio and Airtel would march on with their respective 5G infrastructure. With technologies being transferred from the west at dirt costs because they'd fear that India might give in to Huawei and spoil all their hard work to ban Chinese telecoms.

The speed depends upon your mobile phone bandwidth configuration and range.

If u buy a phone above 30000 you'll get speed upto 20 to 30 mbps at full tower.
Cheaper or older phone can't catch much speed.
I myslef have experienced this I use a 2017 smasung phone and my friend usee 2019 Redmi Note 7, there is a speed difference on the same network.

Armed forces to deploy 5G network for AI, unmanned vehicles

NEW DELHI: The Indian army, navy, and air force are likely to embrace the next generation (5G) technology to bring artificial intelligence (AI) and unmanned vehicles to centre stage in a bid to compete with the most advanced armed forces worldwide, according to a top official.

"Armed forces also will need to migrate to 5G network considering the use of unmanned vehicles and AI in future," Ajay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Defence told ETTelecom, adding that, "the ministry will take necessary steps to take forward 5G connectivity with relevant use cases."

Fifth generation or 5G technology-driven telecom network is touted to bring low-latency communications to the mainstream with a range of enterprise wide use cases across agriculture, manufacturing and retail verticals in addition to defence applications.
