Firstly, the need for "medium" plane is crap, What we need is plane which is top of the line and can take down most planes with ease. We have Su-30 MKI in that league. This is the plane that has trumped over Rafale and Eurofighters
Both Rafale and Eurofighters are good planes but too expensive to buy and use, and in comparison, the Russian planes are excellent (at least they beat the top european planes hands down) and cheap to buy, and cheaper in terms of LCC as compared to Eurocanards.

F/A-18 however, maybe and just maybe we can get at low price, and if its really competitive then maybe that is the best plane to go for URGENT REQUIREMENT of IAF.

As always Su-30 and Su-35 are my best choices followed by MiG-35 for being cheap to buy and use and of course the magic word COMMONALITY. After all a plane that has commonality with 300+ planes in IAF is better than what we have for just 48 planes.

IAF is always fighting past wars, what we need to look for is future, and the future is Tejas and FGFA and of course AMCA, and now how we reach there, maybe with help of some more Su-30 MKI or Su-35 or maybe some Mig-35 just in case IAF is eager for "medium" and if they stick to "non russian stance" which I dont expect them to any more, then maybe F/A-18 E/F

Alenia Aermacchi was a subsidiary of Leonardo-Finmeccanica[1] (formerly Finmeccanica) active in the Aeronautics sector, with offices and plants in Venegono Superiore, Varese, Turin Caselle Airport in San Maurizio Canavese, Province of Turin andPomigliano d'Arco, Province of Naples.[2] From 1 January 2016, the activities of Alenia Aermacchi merged into Leonardo-Finmeccanica’s Aircraft and Aerostructures Divisions, within the Aeronautics Sector.
Alenia Aermacchi was created on 1 January 2012 as the merger of Alenia Aeronautica and its subsidiaries (Alenia) Aermacchiand Alenia SIA. The former Alenia Aeronautica was created in 1990 by concentrating the Finmeccanica aerospace and defense industries Aeritalia and Selenia.

Eurofighter Typhoon is three Countries fighter. The Typhoon was designed and is manufactured by a consortium of three companies, Alenia Aermacchi, Airbus Group and BAE Systems,
Finmeccanica is banned by Indian Goverment
guys do you think Eurofighter Typhoon has a chance in India since it is four countries consortium like Britain, Italy, Germany and Spain.

You have calculated on basis of 43 squadrons less what we plan to buy (192 planes) but what about the planes that will be there till 2030 or longer? Su-30 MKI (200+) MiG-29 upg, Jaguars, Mirage 2000 (the last upgraded plane will come somewhere around 2025 I think) I think the basis of your calculation is wrong

43 squadrons = 43 x 16 = 688 planes, assuming 16 planes in one squadron.

120 LCA + 72 Sukhoi-30 = 192 planes.

688 - 192 = 496. So, we certainly need another 400+ planes to make up 43 squadrons.

192 +
200 existing su30 +
50 mirage 2000 +
120 jaguars
= 562
+ 120 tejas
= 682

As per you 43 sqd = 688

So there isn't room for even 36 rafales

:yo::yo:

PS I forgot MIGs 29

PS PS I forgot fgfa & amca

SEPECAT Jaguar : 145 , Dassault Mirage 2000 : 51 Mikoyan MiG-29 : 60 (All retd 2030 ) = 256

Mig 21 : 132 (remaining, retd by 2022) + MiG-27: 120 (2018 retd) = 252

Needed 43*18 (median Strength)= 774

Su 30 = 272 (502 remain)
Rafale = 36 (466 remain)
Tejas = 100 (366 remain on 2022 still a shortage of 110 birds if we add all those retiring by 2030)
Iaf says jags and mirage after upgrade will serve 15 years

Last ac upgrade in 2025

400 ac in 12 years

2018 to 2030

2016 & 2017 will be used in finalising the fighters

So that is 34 fighters / year

At 160 million / fighter (fighter + weapons) = 5.5 billion only for NEW ( over & above already contracted B it to be paid for ) fighters per year for next 14 years + base infra + maintainance

So

Show me the money honey

Remember MH370

There was theory that it turned and flew to Indian ocean over Andamans

When asked if iaf station I n Andaman picked it up on radar

Iaf said the radar was switched off to save money as they had limited budget and they switch it OK only randomly for short period if time otherwise it is usually switched off

Now all those people who says 400 fighters in iaf and 200-300 rafales finalised

Repeat after me - show me the money honey

There are 18-20 aircrafts per IAF squadron.

As of 2030, I hope -
270 Su-30MKI
36 Rafales (not a big fan, but whatever, deal is almost being concluded)
67 Mig29
50 Mirage2000
145 Jaguars
120 Tejas mk1/mk1A

Assuming Tejas mk2 and FGFA deliveries start from 2025
50 Tejas mk2 (till 2030)
50 FGFA

Total - 788 Aircrafts
Now even if a Squadron is 19-20 aircrafts...it would make approximately 40-41 Squadrons.

However post 2019 , 2 more squadrons..i.e 40 more Su-30MKIs can be ordered to keep the MKI line running.
Thus total 42-43 squadrons.
At the same time Tejas mk2 and FGFA production lines would be running simultaneously.

80 more Tejas mk2 till 2035 would take the squadron strength to 47, while more FGFA inductions could simultaneously replace the Jaguars.

Initial AMCA inductions would also add to the numbers while the last 117 odd AMCAs would replace the 67 Mig29s and 50 Mirage2000.

Seems like a decent road map, provided they push and support the Tejas mk2, FGFA and AMCA programmes rather than looking for "Phoren" jets.
36 Rafales costing 8 Billion$ alone puts a major hole in the budget.

first get the 36 rafales and then show us the vision of 2030. I am fed up discussing IAF procurement.

Won't the Jaguars be gone by 2030?

If we get 120 tejas in eight years - 2024 -2025

What will the tejas prdn line do from 2024 to 2030?
It will be used for producing the next iteration of LCA, or maybe LCAs for export, or maybe upgrading the existing LCAs, or maybe even for the AMCA.

I believe, they will continue to produce Tejas after 2024.. till 2030 at same rate.. something similar to Dhruv.

New order will be placed by IAF once they start using it.

Exactly that will be used to replace the writing mig29 jaguars & mirage 2000

Yeah :playball:

Meanwhile .. Egyptian State TV reported that 29 Mig 35 were coming to Egyptian airforce. Wondering if @gadeshi can confirm ?
The Egyptians will get 400 new jets long before India at current rate o_O
So the Egyptians have stopped at 24 Rafales only ?

But I don't guess they can induct them continuously for a decade, every year. :p

It is likely. Very expensive deal for Egypt ! but they got what they want, strategic autonomy from US.

About the latest news, I am confused .. the Egyptian State TV mentioned Sukhoi jets. Maybe a mistake .
Their TV is not known for its reliability .
