Thousands of youth Thursday appeared at JAK Li Regimental Center, Rangreth in outskirt's of Srinagar city, where army had conducted a recruitment rally.

Reports reaching here said that thousands of youth turned up at the rally for filling up of 55 vacancies of Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Battalion (Home & Hearth) of Territorial Army whereas the selection was scheduled and publicized only for the boys belonging to Ganderbal, Budgam,Pulwama and Srinagar.

Reports said some of the candidates are even post graduates.

They said it was tough for Army to control the crowd, the timely response by JK Police helped army to control the crowed deftly without allowing the recruitment process to get disrupted as also avoiding any untoward incident at the sight.

A call was given by Army for recruitment to the 55 vacancies (52 GD Riflemen + 3 trades men) for the TA (H&H) Battalion through advertisement in newspapers for youth belonging to the only four districts of Ganderbal, Budgam,Pulwama & Srinagar, however, the youth from all over the Valley turned up making it difficult for the Army officials responsible for recruitment to manage them, Brijesh Panday, a senior defence official said.

Army is sensitive to the growing desire of Kashmiri youth to join military and has started conducting recruitment in phased manner. However, the desperation for seeking stable and dignified jobs is such that youth do not wait for the turn of their district, the official said.

Meanwhile, thirteen youth from Bandipora district are all set to join Indian army, a senior army official said.

"In a function organized at Army Camp Kaharpora 13 youths interacted with Commanding Officer of 14 Rashtriya Rifles, Dr Shah Fasil, DC Bandipur and ASP Yousf Choudhary", he said.

The selected youth are among the 75 persons who were being given training by the local army's 14 Rashtriya Rifles to Join Indian Army, he said.

He said training of 75 youths was commenced last year just before the recruitment rally which was held at Sonarwani camp.

Meanwhile, 25 youths have successfully completed the formalities and joined the Army last year through Bandipur and Anantnag rallies, the official added.

These 13 boys had appeared at the recruitment rally held at Budgam.

Felicitaing the youth at Army base in Kharpora in Bandipur commanding officer of the local unit, Dr Shah Faesal and ASP congratulated the young boys.

DC and ASP have assured all support to these boys in further documentation.

Their CM Mufti would is looking to give them the job of Stone Pelting and the Trainer is out of the jail.

Anyway... if Kashmiris are so interested in Army then they should be sent to some other parts of India to serve.

I am not sure if this suggests a shifting stance or a change of mood. This is a bunch of unemployed youth looking for employment avenues and army and paramilitary forces offer one such. Different folks in this crowd may have different motivations to apply for these posts- economic, social, political, activist and even ulterior (probably function as moles etc).

Nothing to get excited about. Remember all the students who cheered and chanted for Pakhanistan in Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad and elsewhere? They are not the only ones.
