We are the ones who sacrificed most in this war on terrorism and still doing military operation against them and we will eliminate them inshallah..just ask raw to stay away from sponsoring these terrorists...

why you always divert the topic with irrelevant post?

I beg to differ you r the ones who created it. Now it has gone out of control its ur fault . Stop playing victim card

not a surprise at all - long time back I posted of American media mocking smoggy Delhi during Modi's visit.

one of problems with pre-industrialized countries is lack of wherewithal and tech to switch to cleaner energy. that's why Kathmandu for example - a presumed Shangri La, is sometimes found shrouded in dust even though there's little industry at all.

Indian posters used to take comfort in quoting China in bad light but almost have forgotten India not on the par with China nowadays even in respect of reducing carbon footprints. economic slowdown and slump in fossile fuel prices have given rise to the transition too.

it takes time , of course where the industries exist that place will be polluted. But how much capability must be developed to take this challenge only comes along with the industrial development.

India has just started , and will work towards containing the emission along with the industrial development.

Hmmm... GOI will prioritize economic revival(critical) right now over pollution. Developed countries have polluted much more than developing... India can reduce it carbon footprint once it has enough economic resources and cheap clean energy alternatives are available but should keep working on better energy solutions at high to medium level. Economic/social reforms still priority one i would say

below report is for y2014. now the world shall have turned to focus on India of such a size that lags behind in green energy.

China sets world record on solar power installations

Figures indicating the installation of 12GW of solar power last year show 'astonishing' scale of the market, with experts forecasting further growth

China installed a record 12GW of solar power last year, doubling its rate of solar installations, according to preliminary figures. This is more than has ever been installed by any country in a single year and means that the mainland installed three times more solar energy last year than the total British solar capacity.

As of July India had 4 GW of Solar power installed and the target is 22 GW by 2020 which will be achieved quite comfortably.

while the installed capacity of Wind Power in India is around 23 GW and the target for 2022 is 60 GW.

India may be lagging behind China on several economic indicators but when it comes to environmental degradation, the country has definitely outsmarted its giant neighbour.

Of the world’s top 20 polluted cities, 13 are in India compared to just three in China. Air pollution slashes life expectancy by 3.2 years for the 660 million Indians who live in cities, including Delhi. In China, the corresponding dip is marginally lower at three years.

The Ganga and Yamuna are ranked among the world’s 10 most polluted rivers. China has just one. An evaluation in February ranked Vapi in Gujarat and Sukinda in Odisha among the 10 most environmentally-degraded zones in the world. China had no entries on the list.

The two nations have seen furious economic growth in the past decade fuelling a rapid rise in pollution. China leads the world in carbon emissions and India is in third position. But one important difference between the two emerging economies lies in China’s ability to manage the impact of breakneck economic growth on its environment much better than India. The effect of China’s success is most visible in its air and water, both of which have a direct bearing on public health.

Both countries were saddled with almost identical environmental concerns a decade ago, but China cleaned many of its polluted rivers and managed to check the spiralling urban air pollution through stringent rules.

The results are showing. “Beijing's air pollution has dipped 40% since 2000 as we have taken steps to phase out polluting vehicles and put checks on building heating systems,” said Beijing municipal officer Li Kunsheng at an event in Delhi earlier this year.

In contrast, Delhi’s air pollution has steadily climbed by 20% in the same period with successive governments reluctant to act. The story is the same in cities across the country. Coimbatore is the only exception as the air there was found to be fit for breathing.

The impact of rising toxins in the air is clearly visible on an average Indian's life, as proved by a Lancet study in 2012 that ranked air pollution as the sixth biggest killer with an annual estimated toll of 66 million.

A 2015 report by the Centre for Science and Environment, a Delhi-based NGO, says the decline in the country's overall environmental standards was because of river pollution, which is worse now than it was three decades ago, piling garbage in cities and increasingly toxic urban air.

"In India, environment degradation is a runaway problem impinging on public health an exacerbating poverty," says Sunita Narain, the NGO's director general. “We need to act and act fast ... otherwise the health cost would be enormous,” she added.

A three-year analysis of the water quality in 290 rivers by the Central Pollution Control Board said about 66% of the stretches monitored had high organic pollution. It means 8,400 km of these rivers are badly polluted and not fit for supporting aquatic life. "Increasing flow of untreated waste water from cities into these rivers is the reason for our rivers getting polluted," says Shashi Shekhar, CPCB chairman and special secretary in the environment ministry.

But not all news is bad with innovative green initiatives sprouting all over the country. The bicycling clubs in Bengaluru act as one of the biggest networks of bikers in the country, a group of people have generated organic fertilizer from waste in Kolkata and Bungroo and a programme of the Gujarat Ecological Commission has turned wasteland into a good agri-production zone.

And then, there are a new band of young environment activists such as Ritwick Dutta who took authorities to court for violating environmental laws and protect people's right to a clean environment. As a result, the National Green Tribunal has compensated locals for pollution and one such case is in Tamil Nadu.

Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar is also hopeful of people's participation pushing governments to improve the environment, saying a policy of "development without destruction" is in place.

In the coming years, his ministry plans to introduce a new environmental regime that will focus on "self-regulation" and strengthen the "polluter-pay principle" with higher penalties for violation of environmental laws.

Listen man if you don't understand science please refrain from posting articles more than your little cranium can process , though assuming that you are a Pakistani it may be hard to do so .
When warm, moist air comes into contact with a surface that is too cold, the moisture in the air condenses — or forms water vapor which either is deposited on any hard surface or if the water vapour nuclei is small it hangs in the air.
India is an industrializing country and has the 2nd largest real built up of machinery in the world after PRC , So we release a lot of effluents into the air NO2 and SO2 mostly because of the already present moisture in the air and the condensation nuclei already present these gases get deposited and also dissolved into the saturated water vapour so India has more pollution than PRC.

Koppen and Trewartha classification of Indian climate
India is primarily a Sub Tropical moist deciduous and Tropical wet evergreen type of climate .

China has Cool east margin (Midlatitude) region having laurentian type climate so has less moisture and saturation nuclei than India .

India is among one of the countries having high potential for the development of alternative energy sources. India was the first country in the world to set up a ministry of non-conventional energy resources, in the early 1980s. India's cumulative grid interactive has reached 33.8 GW, of which 66% comes from wind, while solar power contributes nearly 4.59% along with biomass and small hydro power of the renewable energy installed capacity in India.

In China the most polluted mostly lies in the arid north (like sandstorm-hit Beijing) or in those mining based areas.

We have modern cities - hometown

Late Sir Ray once happened to post on this city and her "most beautiful coastal highway" as above, of course in a satrical tone as usual :bplease:

and breath-taking scenery - Jiuzhaigou

Maybe Indian posters can find better air-quality benchmarks in Europe. :biggrin2:

Pakistan actually suffered because of terrorism and suicide blasts after joining this war on terror with USA/NATO in 2001 and after doing this military operation against mullah of lal mosque. our army sent two delegations to Mullah Omar in September 2001 asking them to expel the Al qaida leadership from Afghanistan but they refused to listen. India was willing to offer security related cooperation to US after 9/11 So Pakistan did not let India exploiting the situation in the region to pursue its agenda against Pakistan so they joined this war on terror. There were operation going on against militants before this children massacre in peshawar school and this attack on army school was result of those military operation

I agree with you . what are reasons of these pollution and how to control it are good question for debate
I will leave the terrorism subject for different thread. I only want to state FYI that terrorism training camps did exist in Pakistan even before 2001who were called Mujahideen but after 2001 it went from Indian subcontinent issue into International issue due to formation of Al-Queda.

Now coming back to topic of this thread and solution to stem the growth of pollution, I would propose the following steps:

1. Governments in the region should form a joint working group to set the quarterly goals to reduce
dependence on cooking fuel.
2. The countries should move away from thermal plants to non polluting generation plants.
3. Since majority of population lives in villages, we should source the cheapest way to provide power
generation at local level by using solar cells.
4. We should source the cheapest non polluting fuel and technology for the cooking since the present cow
dung and woods used are the one of the biggest contributor of pollution.
5. I would suggest the forum members to form a open source on this forum to share their ideas with
Governments of the region.

Let us focus on bringing positive change for the region. Best of luck.
