Does anyone know if the soldiers are provided with snow beacons all the time while they are on snow?

That should have helped in evacuation post avalanche.

The are but the problem with avalanche if that the response must very quick as air group supply in most case last for 10 min max so some one within the group must get out and rescue other, plus u are under snow ,no light and no sense of direction what is up or down so it quiet difficult to survive .

That is why I said, for rescue you need other team members. But presence of avalanche beacon helps a lot in spotting the missed members--even if a rescue team takes over the mission.

Well all the case of the avalanche I know have no survivor .there are also physical injuries that restrict movement, getting out is very difficult .You are buried under more then 10 feet of snow the pressure restrict the movement,it is a miracle that even to get out and after that you are out of energy ,you do not know how deep ur comrades are. Rescue team takes time about 2 -3 hours minimum .A better option are rescue dogs as they find the person with least depth first but by that time suffocation will kill most of people .There have been case people stayed alive for more then 45 mins but quiet rare. They are trying to find new techniques but no success till now.

we should have put flag at half mast for a day

...... We are all aware that it is an international conspiracy to overplay India's losses in Siachen to brainwash Indian junta into believing that our Siachen 'adventure' is proving to be too costly for the nation.

This itself will break the nation's will to fight there.

There is a deliberate attempt whereby I'm seeing media reports of how we are spending crores of rupees to sustain the men at Siachen, how we are losing so many men. It's all done with a goal of making you think 'let's leave this place, it's not working out'.

You can't win any battle if you are so weak willed. If you want to change the status quo then we will have to make sacrifices. Our gains will be directly proportional to the sacrifice we are willing to make. There is no magic formula where we will win wars without losing a single troop.

Indian media deliberately spreads gloom every time our soldier dies or our base is attacked to demoralize the military and civilians at the same time.

On the other hand, every death of an Islamic soldier is celebrated as a 'shahadat' in their own countries. It's considered a good deed. They don't chicken out from fights because of attrition.

Their media doesn't provoke their gullible population to ask defeatist questions.
.
well said and liked

to keep the matter in perspective , one indian soldier lost is sadness for us

pakistan a couple of years ago lost 143 soldiers in an avalanche in G-Baltistan
in less severe heights

our army comparatively has done much better , no doubt they may be reviewing what they can do to be even better

Funny but the are that are avalanche prone cannot be seen or target by pak, plus there are many factors for avalanche like sunlight ,sound ,slope etc and it can happen any where
it cannot happen on a peak. And mostly the posts are on peaks. like Bana Post

Army Deploys Specialized Radars to Trace Soldiers in Avalanche

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army has deployed specialised earth penetrating radars to locate the bodies of 10 soldiers who were buried alive in an avalanche in the Siachen Glacier.
The radars are being taken to the spot, at an altitude of 19,600 feet, by IAF's Cheetah helicopters, in a knocked down version.

The indigenous Dhruv helicopters, bigger than the Cheetah, were unable to land there due to lack of proper space.

The Army meanwhile released the names of the 10 soldiers who were buried alive.
They are: Subedar Nagesha TT from Karnataka, Havildar Elumalai M from Tamil Nadu, Lance Havildar S Kumar from Tamil Nadu, Lance Naik Sudheesh from Kerala, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad from Karnataka, Sepoy Mahesha from Karnataka, Sepoy Ganesan G from Tamil Nadu.
Sepoy Rama Moorthy N from Tamil Nadu, Sepoy Mustaq Ahmed of Andhra Pradesh and Sepoy Nursing Assistant Suryawanshi of Maharashtra were also among those who were killed in the avalanche early on February 3.

My prayers are with the Naik Hanumathappa.
We must appreciate the efforts of the rescue teams who would have also faced the same dangers no less.

Nations's prayer with Hanumanthapa our protector.

As a Kannada he never experienced normal winters let alone - 50 siachen which is the most inhospitable place on Earth but he was serving there for the nation.

Equally commendable was the visit of Modi and D.M to see the Jawan at M.H without any fanfare and security, these actions increases the morale of army and families of Army and most importantly the nation.

It signifying that how much we value the life of a single jawan.

Siachen braveheart Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad dead: Army official

DELHI: Siachen soldier Lance Naik Hanamanthappa passed away on Thursday at 11:45am.

The Army Research and Referral Hospital said on Wednesday evening that his condition had worsened "despite aggressive therapy and supportive care".

Koppad miraculously survived after being under 35 feet of ice at an avalanche-hit army post in the Siachen glacier in Jammu and Kashmir, six days after he and nine other soldiers were buried. The bodies of the other nine have been found.

A medical bulletin on Wednesday said that Hanamanthappa was in extremely critical condition with evidence of oxygen deprivation to the brain and pneumonia in both lungs."His multi-organ dysfunction state continues unabated. His condition has deteriorated despite aggressive therapy and supportive care," the bulletin added.

Koppad was found from under 35 feet of ice at an avalanche-hit army post in the Siachen glacier in Jammu and Kashmir -- six days after he and nine other soldiers were buried. The bodies of the other nine have been found.

Koppad has served in difficult and challenging areas for 10 out of 13 years of his total service.
Koppad was posted in Mahore in Jammu and Kashmir from 2003 to 2006, where he was actively involved in counter-insurgency operations.

He again volunteered to serve with the 54 Rashtriya Rifles (Madras) in Jammu and Kashmir from 2008 to 2010, and later in the northeast from 2010 to 2012 where he took part in operations against the NDFB and ULFA.

He had been serving in Siachen glacier area since August 2015.
