This was planned in advance and known by Pakis. The impression that one can convert out of Islam and be successful like Dilshan hurts the pride and self-worth of Pakistan the Nation. Why let and allow such a notion exist and make sure the Pakis follow and develop a tormentor and tyrant attitutde to such people like Dilshan (born Muslim but now non-Muslim). Such english and precision on the field is unknown by them. It might even have been planned by the administrators.
The Paki cricketer however forgets that in the overall scheme of things (since he is venturing into the international forefront) needs careful thought process and execution and this is where it will get messy. Once must also never forget Pakistan wants the world to know that it is the Sunni Warriors and Protectors of the Sunni Muslims all over the world. With this they will want to be known to be the International Sunni Cricket Team and Safeguards for Sunni supremacy.
But the beauty is that his words are not correct. Perhaps he needs to divulge into that thought process more.
Good effort by the Pakis the better reply from Dilshan would have been "are you a Shia" - "are there any Buddists, Christians, Hindus, Shias and Jews left in Paki" and "is it possible for them to reach heaven and where does it say that is not possible"
Dilshan was born to a Muslim father and a Buddhist mother and was known as Tuwan Mohamed Dilshan.
He shed his Muslim name shortly after his international debut in 1999 and took up the name Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan with an ethnic Sinhalese-Buddhist identity.
His childhood coach Ranjan Paranavitana said even though Dilshan carried a Muslim name, he and his brothers and sisters followed their mother's religion from their childhood.
