Volgograd mourns victims of bus bombing, police look for organizers

Russian security forces are looking for the organizers of a deadly suicide bombing on a bus in Volgograd that killed six people and injured 37 on Monday.

The bomb, measured at about 500-600 grams of TNT equivalent, was detonated by 30-year-old suicide bomber Naida Asiyalova, a native of Russia's southern republic of Dagestan, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.

Asiyalova, reportedly the wife of Dmitry Sokolov, a militant from the Dagestani capital, Makhachkala, detonated the bomb, filled with metal objects and dowel pins, after getting off a Moscow-bound bus on the outskirts of Volgograd and returning to the city center, Markin said.

"Having bought a ticket to Moscow, Asiyalova was going on a bus from Makhachkala and stopped in Volgograd. Her left hand was in plaster, and she was holding it with her right hand. Almost on the outskirts of the city, Asiyalova left the bus and returned to the Volgograd city center," Markin said.

He also added that investigators didn't know if it was "planned, or Asiyalova changed her plan on her way, looking for the most crowded places."

The bomb could be have been triggered by a remote electronic detonator, a source told Itar-Tass.

Asiyalova reportedly converted her husband to radical Islam and convinced him to join a terrorist group in Dagestan, officials say. Sokolov, 21, is part of the Abdul-Jabar armed gang based in Makhachkala, the Interior Ministry said, and is wanted for organizing the Volgograd blast and other terrorist attacks.

Three days of official mourning have been declared in the Volgograd region. All mass cultural events have been canceled, and authorities have asked local TV channels not to broadcast entertainment programs.

Flags will be flown at half-mast during the mourning period.

From early morning Tuesday, residents started bringing flowers to the scene where the blast took place.

"Those who died were ordinary people, they were innocent. It's a terrible tragedy. Anyone of us could be in their place. No one thought that anything of this kind could ever happen in our city," Ivan Skorobogatov, a city resident, told Itar-Tass.

Residents have begun donating blood for those wounded in the blast.

MPs in Russia's State Duma also held a minute of silence to honor the dead.

Bomb technicians and criminal investigators are working at the scene to determine more details about the blast. Traffic has been partly halted in the area where the blast took place, and the scene of the attack remains cordoned off.

Most of the bomb's 30 injured victims are in a moderately serious state. Four people in critical condition have been flown to Moscow by helicopter.

A bomb equivalent to 12kg of TNT has been deactivated in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, according to the National Antiterrorist Committee.

The successful anti-terror mission in Dagestan was accomplished the day after a suicide bomber attack in Volgograd killed 6 using a device consisting of 500-600 grams of TNT.

The bomb was found near a shopping mall in the city of Khasavyurt, after local residents reported to police they had seen a suspicious object there.

The law enforcers identified the object as a homemade bomb.

The bomb was found at 8 am and 2 1/2 hours later it was deactivated with a water cannon.

The National Anti-Terrorist Committee has announced it is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Bomb disposal experts from Russia's Federal Security Service were sent to the scene.

"The homemade explosive device was filled with a mixture of saltpeter and aluminum powder, without shrapnel. The device had a detonating fuse and was ready for use," the National Anti-Terrorist Committee said in a statement.

Look at these names- Dmitry Solokov, Asiyanova, like most Central Asians, such as Nasarbayev, have all been slavicized, with little muslim flavour. However it's bn so quick to slip back to bigotry.

1. The estimate of the number of fatalities have been increased to 15.
2. It is believed to be carried out by a female suicide bomber, just like the terrorist attack carried out in October by female suicide bomber on a bus (that killed 6) in the same city of Volgograd.
3. There seems to be an increase in terror attacks in Russia over the last few months (esp. in the Kavkaz, Volga regions). Last Friday there was a car bomb which killed 3 (authorities say it is a terrorist attack though not confirmed).

At least 15 dead as blast rips through railway station in central Russia

At least 15 people were killed in a blast at a railway station in the city of Volgograd, central Russia, according to the regional government. A female suicide bomber is suspected to have carried out the attack, says the National Anti-terrorism Committee.

"We have confirmation now that the number of dead has risen to 18 people, with a further 40 receiving injuries," a regional government spokesman told RIA Novosti news agency.

The incident is now being treated as an act of terrorism, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.

....

At present, the building has been sealed. The cause of the explosion has not yet been reported.

Volgograd is a city of around 1 million people, about 690 km northeast of Sochi and close to Russia's volatile region of North Caucasus. The city saw a terrorist attack just in October, when a suicide bomber blew herself up in a bus, killing six people and injuring more than 30 others.

On Friday, a car bomb killed three people in the southern Russian city of Pyatigorsk.

3 Days mourning declared in Volgograd Region.

Also,

The updated death toll from the suicide bombing is 14 people, Investigative Committee's Markin, said. 34 people are in hospital in the wake of the attack. The remains of the bomber have been recovered at the scene, he confirmed.
The child injured in the blast is a nine-year-old girl. Volgograd mayor, Irina Guseva, told Interfax. The girl's mother shielded her with her own body, which allowed her to survive the blast, but she remains in a serious condition.

Guseva added that taxi drivers, who were waiting for clients right next to the railway station, were among the first responders to the disaster and helped with taking the victims to hospital. "If it were not for them, there would be more people dead," she said.
Russia's council of mufti, "angrily condemns the actions of terrorists, who commit a grievous sin by killing innocent people," the Russian Muslim cooperation organization said in a statement, adding that Islam has nothing to do with the crimes, which terrorist commit under the false pretense of following the religion's precepts.

"We mourn and pray to the Almighty to give patience and courage to the families of the victims and swift recovery to those suffering from this terrible attack," the statement said.
The bomb used by the Volgograd suicide bomber was equivalent to at least 10 kg of TNT, the Investigative Committee said. The explosive core was covered with metal fragments to make the bomb more deadly.
A security checkpoint at the railway station stopped the suicide bomber and prevented her from entering the main waiting hall. Otherwise, the number of casualties would have been higher, spokesman for the Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin, said.

The blast happened about 30 minutes before the Volgograd arrival of a train from Moscow, which may have been the intended target of the suicide bomber.

If Russians know that, Georgians/Chechans are harboring the terrorists why are they not taking any action ? :noidea:

Russians with their might can simply pound those states within no time.

chechniyan +- dagestan =pakistan

i have said in first place before FBI or KGB said:cool2::cool2:

here is the report

The persisting violence has its roots in a separatist struggle in the unruly republic of Chechnya in the early 1990s that evolved into a ruthless Islamist insurgency that spread to neighboring territories. The bulk of the clashes have in recent years focused on Dagestan.:namaste::namaste:

The situation in Chechnya is more fragile than people think.
For starters, in the early part of the 19th century, Russians constituted about 25% of the population after the dissolution of the USSR and after the two Chechen wars, now Russians constitute about 3% in Chechnya.

As always nothing is straightforward.
For example: you start a war in Chechnya, external and internal forces will start driving wedges between Russians and the Muslims in Russia. A war which is perceived as targeting Muslims will cause trouble. It will start distancing Muslims in Russia and they constitute 13-15% of the population, not a small percentage.
Next, support for independence of Chechnya will increase outside Russia, and nations like the USA will be more than happy to slap sanctions on Russia. And Russia will be shunned by the world economies (except China). Russia is not currently in such a comfortable position economy-wise to take such actions.
The wars in Chechnya have already done enough damage. Russia doesn't have many options on the table which is why, for example they installed the Kadyrovs as the leaders of Chechnya (Akhmad Kadyrov and later his son Ramzan Kadyrov) both ruthless former warlords. The reason being that they were the lesser evil, they had control and weren't seeking outright independence.
A war in Russia will make Russia less conducive for investments, something Russia needs. Also, after 20 years of decline, only over the last couple of years have Russia's population actually started increasing.

A war with Georgia is out of the question as it may not achieve the objectives (destroying all terrorist camps and their support bases ?) but at the same time will destroy Russia's image in the outside world (economy etc).

So the best thing that Russia can do now is intelligence work: tracking the terror camps, tracking their connections outside Russia, locating them wherever they may be, preventing terror attacks and taking them out one by one. This is already being done to some extent.

PS: The Sochi Olympics is just around the corner.

Radical Groups Must Be Outlawed, Chechen Leader Says

The head of Russia's Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov has called on the Russian parliament to outlaw all radical groups in an effort to fight against terrorism.
Kadyrov said in a statement on Instagram condemning Sunday's blast at a train station in the southern Russian city of Volgograd: "I strongly believe that we will not root out this evil by playing democracy and humanity games."
"I call to outlaw all the radical movements, parties and groups," Kadyrov said.
The Chechen leader has urged the Russian State Duma, the lower house of parliament, to pass a law increasing the severity of punishment for those who share the ideas of terrorists, spreads their ideology and trains terrorists.
"We should fight terrorism and radicalism at the stage when an idea arises," Kadyrov said. "Criminals cannot be divided into good or bad ones. The goal of any good extremist and radical is to commit crimes aimed at attracting attention," he said.
The fight against terrorism is once again in the forefront of public attention with the alleged suicide bombing attack at a railway station in Volgograd on Sunday that killed at least 16.
