China says Japan's 'hype' on air defence zone spreads tension | NDTV.com

China does not feel threatened by countries in Southeast Asia and is optimistic about the situation in the disputed South China Sea, the Foreign Ministry said, warning Japan not to "spread rumours" it plans a new air defence identification zone.

China alarmed Japan, South Korea and the United States last year when it announced an air defence identification zone for the East China Sea, covering a group of uninhabited islands at the centre of a bitter ownership spat between China and Japan.

Last week, Japanese newspaper the Asahi Shimbun said China was considering setting up a similar zone - where foreign aircraft are supposed to report their movements to China - in the South China Sea, prompting the U.S. State Department to warn against such a move.

In a statement released late on Saturday, China's Foreign Ministry implied there was no need for such a zone in the South China Sea, where China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and Taiwan all have competing claims.

"Generally speaking, China does not feel there is an air security threat from ASEAN countries," the ministry said, referring to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

"China feels optimistic about relations with countries surrounding the South China Sea and the general situation in the South China Sea," the ministry said, adding it believed prospects for ties with ASEAN were "bright".

While the ministry said China had a right to set up air defence identification zones which nobody should criticise, it criticised Japan for attempting to distract attention from Japan's own military plans.

"Right wing forces in Japan have again been hyping up so-called plans that China will shortly set up an air defence identification zone in the South China Sea, which is purely to try and distract international attention, to cover up their conspiracy to ... expand their military," the ministry said.

"We warn these forces not to delude people with rumours for their own selfish interests and play up tensions, and hope the relevant party talks and acts cautiously," it added.

Ties have been strained by a recent visit by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to a controversial shrine for war dead, China's East China Sea air defence zone and the long-running dispute over a string of islets both countries claim, known as the Diaoyu in Chinese and the Senkaku in Japanese.

China, which is swiftly ramping up military spending, has regularly dispatched patrols to the East China Sea since it established the defence zone.

China has repeatedly denied Japanese accusations of being a threat to peace, saying it is Japan which is the threat, warning that Tokyo is trying to rearm and has failed to learn the lessons from its brutal behaviour during World War Two.

China 'expels' foreign military planes from airspace | The Indian Express

China Saturday said it "expelled" foreign military planes from its airspace, the first such incident after Beijing unilaterally declared an air defence zone over islands disputed with Japan in the East China Sea.

"An unidentified military plane was spotted on Friday morning, disrupting the peace and celebratory atmosphere. Airmen from East Sea Fleet were deployed immediately to expel the planes," state-run CCTV quoted The People's Liberation Army Daily as saying.

The report did not identify the country to which the military planes belonged or the exact location where the incident occurred.
China is shutdown for a week from January 31 to celebrate the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival. "The whole mission lasted less than three hours"¦ it is essential for the soldiers to stay alert, even on the most important holiday in China. And it is the army's responsibility to protect the people for a peaceful and happy new year," the report said.

In November, China declared the Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea over the disputed islands and warned it could take action against aircraft passing through the region that did not identify themselves. The US, Japan and South Korea did not recognise the ADIZ and flew their military planes through the zone monitored by China's Air Force. The announcement of the ADIZ came amid an escalation of the diplomatic standoff between Japan and China over the uninhabited islands, called Senkakus by Tokyo and Daisy's by Beijing.

A fact here, Japanese planes took lot of pictures around DiaoYu island, but no one of those pictures is took after China set the air-defence zone. (Google is your friend)

reason is simple, they cannot approach that air space any more.

On the other hand, Chinese bombers and jet fighters are started to paroling there every day after the date.
It is one of things western media will never let you know,to make you think they are still have superior force in Asia.

Pictures are in the links from CCTV-7.

U.S. advises China to stop “risky” activities in the East China Sea - The Japan Daily Press

The United States has advised China to stop participating in numerous "risky" maritime activities in the East China Sea. In recent high-level talks between the two nations, the U.S. expressed concern over increased Chinese maritime events targeting the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.

In his latest visit to Beijing, Deputy U.S. Secretary of State William Burns conveyed the U.S.' apprehension over "an unprecedented spike in recent activity" to Vice President Li Yuanchao and State Councilor Yang Jiechi. He also touched on the issue of China's unilateral establishment of an air defense identification zone over the East China Sea. According to the testimony of Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel, who reported on Burns' meeting with Beijing officials, 'The Senkakus are under the administration of Japan and unilateral attempts to change the status quo raise tension and do nothing under international law to strengthen territorial claims." He also noted that Burns' brought up the issue of a "growing incremental pattern of efforts" by the Chinese to insist control in some areas of the South China Sea.

Republican Representative Matt Salmon recently described China's actions as "we're going to see what we can get away with, and if the U.S. has the guts, the cojones, to challenge us." On the other hand, Democratic Representative Gerry Connolly said that from a distance, it seems like China is bent on "picking a fight" with several countries that they are in a territorial dispute with, like Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan, among others. While the U.S. maintains to have a neutral stance in the issue of territorial disputes, the Senkaku Islands are under a 1960 security treaty with Japan. As such, the U.S. is compelled to support Japan, their closest ally in Asia, on this issue.

Yes for its self destruction by playing the devil's role.
Don't know why, but many times I have stopped to admire China. It is very good in many aspects. I, myself, love Chinese cuisine. If we look around India, we can find chinese varieties more easily and in the hundreds than japanese or other western cuisine or goods. Though, I loath many goods for their low quality, I respect their food and taste. It would do very well for both India and China if we can let bygones be bygones and respect each other for the great strides each has made (of course this includes not supporting the others enemies).

It would be a pity of all the good in china come to naught because of it's misdemeanors.

In Hyderabad there is a place called Sikh Village. There is a chinese cuisine 1 room take away where the cook uses authentic chinese spices for noodles and chicken varieties and momos and chutney made from manipuri chilli. I love that place.

US says China 'acting professionally' in air defence zone - FT.com

Chinese fighter jets have not dramatically changed their behaviour near the disputed Senkaku Islands since Beijing created an air defence zone over the East China Sea, according to the top US commander in the Pacific.

Admiral Samuel Locklear, head of US Pacific Command, said the Chinese air force had continued to engage the US and Japanese in a professional way since the creation of the air defence identification zone in November.
While Adm Locklear said there had not been any dramatic change to the way Chinese fighters operate in the area, he reiterated US concerns about the zone.

"We don't recognise it and we believe it was an unnecessary action by the Chinese to try to change the status quo," he said. "Any attempt by any party to change the status quo is unacceptable and leads to insecurity."

US can only use those things to fool their people now.
But, for sure we are acting professionally and peacefully.

US blames China for rising tensions in South China Sea - FT.com
In public statements in recent days, senior US officials placed the blame for tensions in the region solely on China and warned that the US could move more forces to the western Pacific if Beijing were to declare a new air defence zone in the South China Sea...

In a separate statement, Evan Medeiros, the Asia director at the White House national security council, warned China against declaring an air defence identification zone for the South China Sea, following its announcement in December of new rules for airspace in the East China Sea.
