[h=2]Pakistan Clandestinely Moving Its Nukes: Report[/h]

WASHINGTON - Pakistan has started moving its nuclear weapons in low-security vans on congested roads to hide them from U.S. spy agencies, making the weapons more vulnerable to theft by Islamist militants, two magazines reported Nov. 4.
The Atlantic and National Journal, in a joint report citing unnamed sources, wrote that the U.S. raid on May 2 that killed al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden at his Pakistani compound reinforced Islamabad's longstanding fears that Washington could try to dismantle the country's nuclear arsenal.

As a result the head of the Strategic Plans Divisions (SPD), which is charged with safeguarding Pakistan's atomic weapons, was ordered to take action to keep the location of nuclear weapons and components hidden from the United States, the report said.

Khalid Kidwai, the retired general who leads SPD, expanded his agency's efforts to disperse components and sensitive materials to different facilities, it said.

But instead of transporting the nuclear parts in armored, well-defended convoys, the atomic bombs "capable of destroying entire cities are transported in delivery vans on congested and dangerous roads," according to the report.

The pace of the dispersal movements has increased, raising concerns at the Pentagon, it said.

Pakistan has long insisted its nuclear arsenal is safe and the article quotes an unnamed official from the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence agency saying: "Of all things in the world to worry about, the issue you should worry about the least is the safety of our nuclear program."

The Pentagon declined to comment on the article but a senior U.S. military official told reporters in Washington that the United States remains confident Pakistan's nuclear weapons are secure.

"I believe the Pakistan military arsenal is safe at this time, well guarded, well defended," said the military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The article, based on dozens of interviews, said the U.S. military has long had a contingency plan in place to disable Pakistan's nuclear weapons in the event of a coup or other worst-case scenario.

U.S. Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) has for years trained for a potential "disablement campaign" that its forces would lead and that would require entering more than a dozen nuclear sites and seizing or defusing atomic weapons, it said.

The operation would use sensitive radiological detection devices that can pick up trace amounts of atomic material, and JSOC has even built mock Pashtun villages with hidden mock nuclear-storage depots at a site on the East Coast to train elite Navy SEAL and Delta Force commandos, the report said.

Although Pakistan has suggested it might shift towards China and forsake its ties to Washington, Chinese officials have reached an understanding in secret talks with U.S. representatives that Beijing would raise no objections if the United States opted to secure Pakistan's nuclear weapons, said the report, citing unnamed U.S. sources.

I love the way US builds up isolation around its prey before beginning the hunt. Reminds me of a cheetah that actively isolates its prey and attacks with lightning speed. Once we get a real government, we should learn some stuff from them.

why pakistan is making so many nukes when it doesnt has money to pay back the pensions of his railway employees. i think the game is something very deep and big, in case usa wants to take away the fissile material enriching facility by bombing or doing some great heroic act and also if it takes away few of its nukes then also pakistan wants to have something left with them.

but i think in this way the chances of nukes falling into talib hands are more and the accusation by west( usa) that the pak nukes are up for grab will be more sound and apt. this will bring what is feared by the pakmil, us invasion.

According to Paki thinking the more nukes it has the more relevant it will remain in the international circuit. Pakistan without nukes is like a banana republic
Where is it getting money from for all that? Ask Obama.

In vans ?? scary thought.
The ironic saying comes to my mind "You can choose your friends but not your neighbors."
And look at the yanks, instead of dealing with their pet monster they cozy up to SA and Israel for punishing Iran.
Last nail in the coffin. Hello, are you short of problems yet ??

Regards,
Virendra

Why do you think POK is so disgruntled? Their beautiful valleys and sensitive eco-system is being getting damaged because of Pakistan's obsession with us. In their lust for attacking us, they've forgotten everything else. Pakistan is one virus today that will take entire Asia down with itself. Nukes in van, TTP roaming the streets, suicide bombers crawling all over the country, more than 36 global islamist terror organizations taking refuge in Pakistan including ETIM, Bali bombers, Chechn jihadis, Somali factions of Al Shabbab, Al-Qaeda and what not.....US is taking the whole world into doomsday.

As if this was not enough, now they're trying to invade Iran. WTF is Obama thinking? Trying to distract US citizens with another war because NATO was not successful in WOT.

You need Uranium ore to eventually get to Plutonium. The question is where and how are they getting it. China?
Naturally. No just China but also the nuclear black market which is a huge market for those states labeled as rogue and sanctioned by the West. China just buy excess of nuclear fuel and re-sell to Pakistan without knowing what it is for. They're permanent members of security council so they can get away with it.

Over the years, they have collected quite a bit of plutonium which is a by product of nuclear power plants. Same reason why India does not have to dig for uranium a lot to make bombs. We have collected enough plutonium over the years to make hundreds of bombs.

The concern in this regard is his did Pakistan move from uranium bombs to plutonium when they didn't have any design nor test done? The answer is more proliferation by china while the US was forced to look the other way while it utilized the services of Pakistan in the WoT.

Instead of dilly daddling in iraq and middle east the yanks should have invaded pakistan. Remove terrorism from the roots.
