Defence Minister Panos Beglitis, speaking after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday on the second day of his official visit to Israel, termed cooperation between Greece and Israel a strategic option for both the Greek government and for Israel, as he ascertained during his meetings with the government and the country's political forces.

"It is evident that both countries have the political will to shape a stable strategy on all levels and of course in the sector of defence and military cooperation," the Greek minister said.

Coming soon after Turkey downgraded its relations with Israel, well it seems that Israel has made its first move. Battle ground will be Cyprus.

under the sea bed between Israel and Cyprus there are vast amounts of natural gas and maybe even oil
in 2008 we divided the area between us something turkey disputes because they don't recognize the legitimacy
of the Cyprus republic (40% off with they illegally occupy since 1974)

Russia shares deep cultural and religious link to Greece
both offshoots of Byzantium
plus Russia views turkey as a competitor in kavkaz and central Asia

The Greeks are yet to save their country and Israel is not going to bail their economy out. There is no end to the politics of such a relation.

This puts USA in a tough spot Turkey and Greece are both NATO members and USA and Israel share a decades old alliance. Turkey has gone off in a strange direction with the new government moving away from their traditional ties and more towards islamic fundamentalist states. This game is more complicated because USA cannot lose Turkey to become a more extremists state or SCO/Chinese ally.
