Apparently LMG procurement RFP also got cancelled due to single vendor situation.

Keep in mind, this is a pre-DPP 2016 RFP.

This is happening quite frequently, solution must be found for this single vendor problem.

I'd say one of the solution is have OFB itself as a vendor, which ensures that there will always be a competition.

I think IA shot itself in the foot when it started looking for 7.62 NATO "LMG". OFB did do a good job in putting MMG (MAG 58) on a diet to a very acceptable 9.3 kg but is it "light" enough? Weight penalty on section gunners will not only take away any advantage 7.62 NATO was supposed to offer and carrying nearly twice the weight (with ammo & spare barrel) will impede on the tactical mobility of gunners and therefore section and platoon.

Two solutions come to my mind.

1) Improved INSAS LMG in 7.62, belt fed while keeping the same weight.
2) 21st century equivalent of HK21E, light and ridicoulously accurate.

Ramdas Athawale bats for SC, ST reservation in Indian Army

Union Minister of State for social justice, Ramdas Athawale on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking reservation for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the Indian Army.

“I appeal to Prime Minister Modi to provide reservation to backward classes in the Indian Army,” Athawale told ANI here, adding that he will speak to the Prime Minister regarding the same.

Citing Babasaheb Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar words that we all should serve our country, Athawale further urged all youngsters to get recruited into the Indian Army.

Only in army? Not in navy and air force?

We live in a strange country still full of lot of shit.

Ramdas Athawale is one hell of a MAHA CHUTIYA. He also believes that there should be reservation in Indian cricket team and SC/ST should have their own separate grounds.

No one takes this cunt seriously.

PS: I repeated the same shit written in the article. Should have read the source first.

@Kunal Biswas and everyone else with some knowledge of the subject:

One of the concerns I have is that the quantity and quality of night vision devices and more importantly night vision sights made available to the infantry.
BEL reputedly is having major QC issues and apparently no more NV systems are being ordered until new II tubes are available: https://cenjows.gov.in/seminar-9.html
This is an issue that has come up since 2011 when problems relating to defects emerging after only 2.5 years of service with an MHA order: http://www.thehindu.com/todays-pape...vision-devices-for-rifles/article14955855.ece

BEL has of course provided some 55,000 NVDs to the army so far.

Yet, the army has a roadmap that seeks to increase the scale of issue of NVDs from the scale of 1 per section (which I think is the existing scale of issue) to 50% of each section.

Has there been any increase in the number of NVDs at section level for regular infantry (keep SF and RR out of this for now)?

Moreover has anyone seen any of BEL's infantry weapons sights as highlighted below - especially its uncooled thermal weapon sight as being in service in any degree of quantity?

@ezsasa bhai, i have some confusion regarding the tendering of the .50 cal ... it was reported that we use heavier russian version as compared to us version... these are probably in US versions ....so this means ammo will be imported.... why we are not going for the sniper rifle with russian ammo?

OFB already makes 50 cal AMMO, whether they are sniper grade that is for resident experts in the forum to answer..

link below..

on the rifle itself, the resultant purchase from this tender should give us a clue which side IA is leaning towards (american or russian)

I checked the dimensions of the .50 round being manufactured by OFB and it is not .50 BMG (12.7 x 99 mm) round that is being used in those Barrett M82/M107 Anti-Material Rifles, but .50 Russian (12.7 x 108 mm) that is being used in a variant of Vidhvanshak and those T-72/T-90 mounted NSV heavy machine guns.

What i'm not sure about is whether the tender is meant for .50 BMG (American .50 round) or .50 Russian chambered sniper rifles.
