Hmm.. very interesting & welcome news indeed & comming from Chackojoseph ought to be reliable as well. So it seems like IA will be the 3rd larget operator after the US Army and US Army National Guard. Nice...:thumb:
Sufficient to equip up to eight mountain divisions of Eastern command........ but still deficient for the mountain force structure.

good for mountain, it is light weight, hope we will modify our 105mm for quick mobility like this, OFB has already put it on BMP, but BMP is big for mountain we need something to put on TATA /MM jeep.
Is there any technology to reduce weight of ammunition? Caseless arty ammo?

Apart from the above, the acquisition of 145 155mm/39 calibre, M777 Ultra Light Howitzers will be followed by acquisition of additional 290 pieces to equip the newly created mountainous artillery division.

:hurray:
where has the newly Mountain Artillery Division been created...? Or is it going to be part of the new Mountain Strike Corps we are hoping.?

I do not know much about this new mountain artillery divisions , but I am happy with the news about the additional 290 pieces . I was hoping that the numbers will be more then just 145 - M777. Now this is first time I saw this news and I like it .

btw , as per the link : BAE Systems M777 155mm / 39 Caliber Towed Howitzer for Indian Army - IDP Sentinel

BAE Systems M777 155mm / 39 Caliber Towed Howitzer for Indian Army

Earmarked for Newly Raised Mountain Divisions :
Deliveries of the guns, earmarked to equip the two new mountain divisions (Six regiments) being raised, will span 18-24 months.

If they can fix this on Indian TATA 2.5 ton truck its good then..
It is a good product but the barrel length is simply too less, i.e. L/27. 120 mm mortars can do the same but with less than half the weight and much higher rate of fire.

Also, the 1000 kg weight portrayed is of the gun not the whole platform. LFG despite being twice as heavy has a longer barrel, i.e. L/37. But if army wishes DRDO might give a shot to make it more lighter, more in the lines of LG 1.

Yes, I've been wanting to ask the same question, how would the OFB 105/37 LFG (E2) compare against this. Although it weighs twice as much as this baby, it's got a range of about 17 Kms & there's already a truck mounted version that was displayed @ Defexpo, it isn't as compact as the Hawkeye but incase the weight can be brought down by use of titanium alloys (something like the Ti6Al4V alloy used in the manufacture of the M777) it ought to be pretty interesting option as well.

Truck as well as BMP version of OFB 105mm SPGH are targeted for Paramilitary, BSF will have the truck variant soon..

Its a good Idea about having same tech of M777 in OFB 105mm barrels to make it lighter..

On the cons that hawk-eye will be using different 105mm shells not OFB made 105mm shells..

Mounting any 105mm on a truck is a pretty useless idea. It nullifies the only advantage a 105 could provide that i.e., heli trans portability while seriously lacking the range and fire power of 155mm.

The reason I mentioned LG1 is that it is light enough to be transported by a Mi-17 maybe to an altitude of 4000-5000 meters along with it's crew and ammo.

If they wish to do something right, then mount the upgraded M-46 (155mm) on a 6x6. Now that's a platform which will be highly mobile, with adequate firepower and range.

Lately, DRDO is coming up with some real crappy ideas like the wheeled BMP which is honestly, one of the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. :frusty:

I find 120mm Super Rapid Advanced Mortar System (SRAMS) better than this 105mm short barrel gun:

Singaporean Ammo:
Range:9 km un--assisted ammo.13 km assisted ammo.

You can change ammo though..
Now that is one hell of a mortar. High rate of fire, automatic FCS and other goodies. Great find Kunal. A company as tiny as ST Kinetics is putting DRDO to shame, again.

Don`t blame DRDO, They work only when asked to..

Only after MOD and Army clearance..

I rarely blame DRDO. So far they done more good than harm with their meager budget. It's the sheer lack of ingenuity that baffles me.
DRDO is research organisation, With low budget they are good at doing job..

But failure is not occur coz of one reason but chains of reasons..

Not sure but paramilitaries are not supposed have armed armoured vehicles.

I don't expect DRDO to give us a F-35 or Abrams. But i do expect a better rifle than INSAS or 105 mm gun which is actually light. The only example of creativity last seen was Prahaar. But that too has bleak future.
