JAISALMER: A youth died after completing a five-kilometre run for recruitment in BSF at Sriganganagar sector headquarters on Thursday. The cause of death is believed to be heatstroke. The incident has put a question mark over the timing of recruitment tests by paramilitary forces in the peak summer months of May and June.
In the past few days, over 15 youths have fallen unconscious during physical tests at various recruitment centres in Rajasthan, sources said. Though the BSF authorities have changed the timing of physical tests to 6 am, many youths are still not able to bear the heat. BSF sources said that on Thursday in Sriganganagar sector headquarters, one Narendra Kumar Meena, a resident of Ajitgarh in Sikar`s Srimadhopur tehsil, fell unconscious after completing the five-km run.
He was brought to BSF health centre where doctors declared him dead. The recruitment tests for constables in paramilitary forces are held in May and June. This is proving to be a big problem especially in Rajasthan where the mercury touches 45-46 degrees Celsius.
