World's largest Ferris wheel in India

Imagine riding on a gigantic Ferris wheel and being on the top of the world without going to London or Singapore. yes very soon India will have it's very own giant Ferris wheel on the banks of river hooghly in Kolkata. And guess what this one is going to be even bigger than the one in London or Singapore.According to the proposed plan, once built this wheel in Kolkata is going to be the largest Ferris wheel in the world.

The tenders for the Ferris wheel were floated by the 'Bengal tourism department' in October this year. It will be a joint venture between state govt. and a private partner and also be funded partly by the 'Tourism ministry'.

Few global players have already responded to the tender in form of expression of interest (EOI) including one from the architects of the 'London eye'.

If the local newspapers and their sources are to be believed, the size of the Kolkata eye will be larger than any of the Ferris wheel in the world. The diameter being 150 – 180 meters and the height being 140 – 170 meters. There will be 30 capsules with a total capacity of 500 people. London eye on the Thames river bank is of 120 meters diameter and the height being 135 meters.

Along with the Ferris wheel there will be adventure sports facilities like yachting, rowing and canoeing.

The site for the Ferris wheel project has already been located and the work will start from next year.
