Will support Narendra Modi as PM candidate, says BJD doing a volte face

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD ) seems to be getting close to its former ally BJP once again.

In an interview to a leading English daily, senior BJD leader and Lok Sabha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab said that his party would be willing to support a BJP-led government if the party and its allies have the capability to form the government at the Centre.

The party led by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has in the last few years kept away from both the BJP and the Congress after it walked out of the NDA.

Mahtab reportedly said that the BJD was not averse to backing even Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is often seen as the BJP's communal face, as the party's prime ministerial candidate.

    Now thats spolier for NItish

I think BJD had realised that under congress they wont be able to harness Orissa natural wealth and increase their revenue

But that can change under Modi

So BJD had fallen in line .

Nitish has kept his options open , BJP get anything less than 180 and Nitish will simply jump the boat to UPA camp or make hard concessions with BJP for more plum posts in the cabinet and will vehemently oppose Modi's PM candidature. If BJP get 210+ then all this secular drama will go for a ride and all of JDU will fall in line chanting Namo mantra. Would love to see loud mouthed twats Sadanand Tiwari and Sabir Ali do Sajda paiboz in front of Modi if/when he becomes PM.

actually i think the words of the BJD leader got twisted by the media,
in no case the BJD will support congress, but it might support the BJP and Modi if situation arises. this is what he meant.
the position of BJD is not that diff. from INC as both the parties hav a de facto leader and no one else to challenge him,
INC is the principal opposition party in Odisha.
its also known that Naveen Pattnaik has very close relationship with the BJP central leadership,
in Odisha the BJD doesn't need to form an alliance with any party,
when the BJP-BJD alliance broke in 2009 max. profit was of INC as it won more LS seats due to vote division.
but in assembly elections BJD won with a vast majority.
Naveen Pattnaik has no national ambition unlike Nitish, and he'll always get votes in Odisha.
so, NO, they don't care abt the PM candidate of BJP. they will gladly support Advani if BJP can manage seats with Advani as PM candidate.

Because, what the jumpy journalists fail to take into consideration is that BJD is a strong presenter & supporter of bill which makes it mandatory for parties to announce their PM candidate before polls. They even tried this on state assembly system for CM nomination. Their bill is of course pending, again.

But they have to depend upon central assistance for revenue to keep running their social scheme .they can harness Orisaa natural wealth only if some pro-mined party is ruling and then they donot have to depend upon center assistance. With congress at helm at center they would be never able to harness natural wealth of orrisa because in name nature, adavsis rights and blah,blah.......
