The game itself has changed,
we are still in Dhyanchand mode ( stick work /dribbling)
The forwards need to sprint 25 - 50 m dash at least 60 to 70 times in a game along with the ball or as part of an attack, that makes a sprint every 45 secs add to this the pressure of the game, politics in selections and gross nepotism & you have an unholy mess.
anyone possessing the ball longer than 20-30 secs is asking for trouble, quick short & long passes, speed , aggression and well thought out strategy are match winners.
are we up to it ?

Not in near future. Indian sport's future lies not in team sports like Hockey (due to weird historical baggage, prejudices & favoritism), but in individual sports.

As a team, Indians are less than the sum of their individual selves (or individual worth or mettle).

On their own, each one is as good as they come.

Our sports have a better future than present. But, not in hockey, for reasons mentioned above.

Now that in schools sports has taken a prime position unlike the olden days where parents insisted that children should only swot, there is hope that India would produce sportsmen of merit.

It is essential that in all sports discipline there is more money thrown in, tournaments designed like the IPL, chuck out politicians and entrenched sports fogeys who are fossils, and you will have a new India is sports.

what do Chaps like Sharad Pawar who has played gulidand, that too when his father told him not to be a sloth which he was and still is, understand about cricket or even gullidnada?

All he knows is money and political shenanigans to stay in power, or so it is said.

He is a twerp!

India should do well in football which is more popular than cricket & hockey. But people in India still prefer Cricket.

Let me know about the individual sports. Chess alone is popular. Tennis was as long as Sania was there.

A lot of Indians love and watch hockey.
The stadium was almost packed for a mere qualification match against France for the Olympics.

its ironic that the sports that india did well in the natural progression was to see pakistan also want to emulate the same.

hockey and cricket are two sports in point.
