    Hi
Why India is not selling Light weaponary to other nations who cannot afford the high priced goods of the west?
I am not talking about Dhruv or LCA but smaller weapons....
This will increase Indias Exports as well as keep our assembly lines running...

To reduce cost of even small weapons we need orders from abroad....
So why not look into possible exports ?
    and
why do we keep saying that "even our requirements are not met" when some of the PSUs/Ordinance factories are not operational through out the year....

India is world leader in arms import not in export ,its small arms industry cant beat the more competent suppliers like china and soviet block countries who offer better quality at cheaper rates and even India's most AKM's are imported from Bulgaria . Although india do export some modified antiaircraft guns, army trucks and spares to African countries but we have to understand that neither India has the clout compared to china nor the expertise in arms field to sell some thing competitive in international market .Unless & until we we over come our blind love for foreign products we can't start , take china's example international boycott forced them to innovate ,copy weapons themselves in the start they were really crap but they keep evolving & now they competing Russians & Americans in there own game

We would scrap rather than selling to other country :tsk:

LCA i guess selling it without uncle sam permission is not possible GE-404 engine

Dhruv was exported but after market support is not great by HAL :tsk: not a right tactic

Re: Why not sell light weaponary to the underdeveloped/developing nati

@Jagdish58 yeah i was not talking about exporting LCA and all...
Just small weapons... @hitesh we have the ability to export some short range missiles which are no longer in production but can be made available to other nations /...
our technology in terms of missiles can match any nation in the world even our cost id not too high.....
When countries are buying chinese product same cost no quality if some how we can improve production we can easily attract them towards choosing our arms over china... we cannot take over the entire market but even china cannot supply to the entire world at the same time.... we can exploit those nations... cant we?

Yes India has now started show casing its new weapons for prospective buyers ,tactical surface-to-surface "Pragati" & brahmos to name a few .Problem with brahmos is that russians are more interested to offer there moskit ASM then to let 50-50 venture aka brahmos to find prospective buyers, may be later land version would have better chance .
India do manufacture AGTM Milan older version under license but chines have better to offer ,our NAG agtm is not fully operational.
Indian can offer ground mobile radars to these countries as they have supplied to Lankans .
I find it more embarrassing when we see India footing the the bills for other countries military shopping as Indians are not capable to fill the demands ....

We manufacture some of the best small arms and medium caliber arms, But in outdated factories ..

Factories which dated 1800s, INSAS rifle manufactured at 60s era factory ..

Though i will add despite such condition i did saw quality INSAS in units ..

simple answer:- if we don't China will ( already has done so ) and will get the money .
So we have a choice - either we harvest that market or China does !

Until the laws were changed about 2 years ago India had a Gandhian policy of not exporting arms. Suddenly that has changed and now we have to compete with other nations who have savvy marketing depts. We are always so negative about our own stuff that we will readily believe the sales talk given by other exporters to sell trash to us but we will not be able to give a similar sales pithc for exports because we are convinced that our stuff is always bad and others' stuff is always good. So we import tanks with no A/C for men to fight in 55 degree desert temperatures and export nothing

    Thats make one feel sad...
its just about faith what they dont have in Indian goods and they are not ready to risk a chance....IN has still favoured the home made goods....

I believe here u r talking about India paying for Afghan weaponary.... U have ur views but ethically it is fair. If our neighbours asks for any support we must but yes not till the extent u bring harm to urself.... thats one point other is as many of us feel that terrorism is an issue mutual to all..... we must help others to defend it .....

abt all the weapons u have mentioned they all have potential but wat u dont have till now till today is the govt to take difficult dicision.... even with helping Afghans they were concerned abt Pak feeling bad abt it... Donno why????

Even tiny little Singapore with its ST Engineering group has a better small arms manufacturing group than India does.

If you don't believe me - Google Singapore ST Kinetics and ST Engineering and see their products.

Maybe India should make your own army the loyal customers of your own light weapons before talking about exporting them.
