The Pseudo intellectuals have a new villain, Major Gogoi. Their new pastime, their ticket to fame, that 2 minutes of glory. Target him and you'll be famous overnight. Your articles will be debated, thrashed, will not garner any popular support. But any publicity is good publicity.
So why is Major Gogoi a target?
The answer lies in various layers. The most initial seems because he belongs to Indian Army. An institution that have stood the test of time. Embraced every religion yet has been apolitical. An institution where no matter what your caste, creed, religion you are treated the same way. You will be wrapped in the same flag, you will fight along men of various faith, caste, creed etc. It is a beacon of hope for every Indian. If an institution like Indian army with a million men can do it, why can't we? Exactly what the intellectuals don't want. They don't want to go give you hope. They want to divide and rule. They don't want to see Army growing in stature, becoming that beacon, that light at the end of a tunnel. Why else can such a powerful yet humble institution that has served the country, served us- you and me- be under constant attack?
Another seems the idea that is Major Gogoi, Gentlemen hailing from Northeast. Can this be as some sort of racist, xenophobic attack by the lutyens elite? How can someone from northeast, do something like that? Use his brains, brilliant tactics, harm no one and become some sort of hero? Is this lutyens way of showing blatant racism?
Now, this doesn't stop here. Major Gogoi, isn't just from northeast. He was a jawan. Jawans normally come from not so well to do families. For 9 years, he served our country as a jawan. He later joined Army Cadet College and was commissioned as a lieutenant in December 2008 in the Army Service Corps. He volunteered for the stint with 53 Rastriya Rifles and was posted for counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Sounds easy, yes? No. It is not. This is Indian Army. Nothing is served on a platter unless its your life and the security of the motherland is at stake. Major Gogoi, must have had 10-12 hours of duty, in some of the most inhospitable terrain and then prepare for one of the most toughest exams in the country. Isn't this a source of inspiration? climbing the ladder to success. No discrimination based on place of birth, caste, creed etc. Sheer talent and hard work.
Hell, even if his father was a school headmaster (Indian army should have disclosed what his father did or does, may be he could have gained some sympathy from lutynes' media. Sarcasm alert!) he doesn't get a ticket to fame or success.
There are no other reason as to why Major Gogoi is being targeted for being a brilliant tacticians. A soldier who even after wielding a gun, under tremendous pressure and attacks, men who looked upto him for orders, officials who feared for their lives, laws that protect him from any action he took, choose to protect all lives- that of his men, officials and that of civilians hostile to him, ready to burn him and his men down, and lastly protect his life. That is Indian Army ethos displayed in its finest form.
